We’ve already played Eagles so no way we are going!

Hope Pies and Blues move there for 3 games.

Potential to get ancrowd at Magpies v Blues at optus stadium !!!

I'd assume that Pies and Blues would only go for two weeks and alternate playing Freo and WCE and in the third week Freo and WCE play the derby whilst the Pies and Blues travel back to Vic to play. Then again no crowd in Victoria so you may be onto something.

Odds of Grand Final in WA have shortened from 100,000-1 to 5,000-1.  Might get 60,000 at optus stadium versus nil at MCG. I don’t like it !!

It would be interesting if two Victorian teams made the Grand Final, and would either (a) not be allowed into WA at all or (b) have to quarantine for two weeks before playing the grannie.

You could measure the booing during the game on the Richter scale.

Could set an awful precedent.

...and don't the AFL have a 1000 year agreement with the MCC/MCG trust that the grand final is always played at the G?

I can see the MFC ending up at the Qld hub sooner or later.  If so, they should try to comendeer the Maroochydore facilities and accomodation that we normally use, so at least it feels a little less foreign.

Wouldn't mind us playing the Lyons and Suns up North - at least I might get to see us play live once this year.

On our first home fixture for 2020, does anyone know if the club has anything special planned for this week’s match? I notice many teams have gone with cardboard cutouts of fans. The Doggies adding advertising into the stands for Pal Dog Food. Are we up to speed with this? Or are we being inactive as usual?

I read that any i/state teams will need to go into 'hub' style quarantine for 14 days on arriving in WA.

During quarantine they play each other as they are banned from playing a WA club in that time.  Freo and WCE play each other in that round.  After quarantine each i/state team plays Freo and WCE in the two subsequent rounds.

Whether the i/state teams stay 2 or 3 weeks depends on the break between games.  But I would guess they will be there for close to 3 weeks.

This can be repeated until they run out of teams that haven't played each other or a WA team but it may need a bye week if it is repeated in WA.

I would be very surprised if there isn't a bye at some stage to allow more hubs or catch-up games.

Edit:  Confirmation of above - Collingwood and Geelong are expected to be the first clubs to head to a Perth hub for three weeks, playing one another in quarantine and then both WA clubs in front of packed Optus Stadium...The Victorian clubs are expected to be in WA from July 11-August 2. It is unclear whether they will play round six in WA or Victoria. Source: WA Hub

I like it. A July/August hub with games v Lions v Suns v Saints would be a good outcome. Weather would be okay and good to avoid southern winter.

We have already travelled to Perth so safe from that.

Other possibility is Tassie hub with Hawks, Kangas and perhaps Swans. I like it, though August in Tassie would be frosty “cool”.

Absolutely depressing that Perth will host 60,000 to a footy game in mid July, while 1 million Victorians face a potential lock down at the same time.

I'm from Perth so it's all cherry ripe here baby!

Cats and pies - 3 games on the trot in WA, suck on that!
I wonder if they will complain as much as WC are in QLD. Their whinging has been embarrassing.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
