I watched the Crows match earlier. Himmelberg needs a lot of development. Still not agile enough. Big but inactive type.

Is this the ruckman Himmelberg were talking about.?

Whilst patience with Vandenburg is stretching, he needs this year to get his body right. He was ok today and needs a few more matches. Though agree he’s only the last chance saloon. Fingers crossed.

Have his set shots improved?

Well given we are one of the best teams for inside 50s, JD would be so big a point of difference with his height and aerial skills to our current set up, that kicking 2.4, 1.5 or 3.3  would stil be a pretty big improvement to our fwd line anyway. Those missed shots are not going to be fast rebounds from wasted entries, but behind kick outs to locked in congestion.

And he would not be starved of opportunities to improve, so long as he got on the field. Then perhaps we can finally talk of having a player capable of kicking (gasp) 4 or 5 again...

Bennell couldn't get onto the park for 4 years? Still took a risk

He's not a key position player and also cost absolutely nothing to get him.

Steer clear of Daniher as far as I'm concerned.

At his best, a match-winner.   A big game player,  imv.

Not quite the match winner A grade type imo. 35 games in 6 years. Missed all of 2017 and 2019. When fit, he made us a better team but even fully fit he was a B grade range player. Hope he stays healthy and gets a good run. Great bloke.

His effect on our team, and the opposition is huge.

It doesn't have to be off his boot.

How many goals does Harmes get per match.?

Yes similar type to Harmesy.  Tough. Both love the tackle. Great to have on our side of the trenches.  I see VDHberger as a HFF-rotating on ball on occasion whereas Harmes is more of a mid-rotate HFF.

Harmesy not used well by Goody this year. Hbf? No

I don't know how else the coach is supposed to develop other players in position that are locked down by others  apart from moving others sideways to another role;  not promotion and not demotion,  but is teamwork of another type.

To be honest there's not much out there and I'd rather save our coin for someone who earns it.

If Weed leaves this year without playing at least 8 games it'll be a shame, have to give him a few more cracks at it

No more 'cracks' given; he has to 'earn' a crack and continue 'playing well' in the next 'cracks' to come. Then he'll be 'crackerjack'

Salem-Hibberd-Rivers. HBF pretty well covered.

Salem shouldn't be in there, not attacking enough imv,  he needs to be up the ground, to try to reinvigorate him.

Hibberd is as good as cooked.

Rivers can play any of the small defence posts, or wing, inside as well.

What is this fascination of making players one dimensional. single position players.  Is it some sort of Cristian missionary only position.

We need our players to be able to play numerous roles, to suit the circumstances.

And it works sometimes and not others. It’s not critical for all players. Imo Harmesy is not a half back. He’s an onball tough mid who rotated forward.  Just like Oliver

What after about 2 games.  Your kidding, right. There is no reason why e can't be if he's open minded to it.

Same with Gus playing outside.

And Dunn didn't like the idea of not being a forward, and Howe was the same.

And Frawley didn’t like being a forward and wasn’t.   And Jetta didn’t like being a forward and wasn’t. Plenty more specialize in a position not get thrown around.

Yes of course,  but you have to try them,  before it's proven one way or the other. And not just one game.

We could always rest Harmes,  to gain a spot to play Petracca, and also others kids at sometime this year.

But Defence atmo, is in transition again,  as Jetta and Hibbo are near the end.  as is Jones at HF.

Also our midfield is currently (inside) one dimensional. lacks real class. so we need to find some,  which may or may not be on our list.

Chandlers goal on video this week shows some real mental ability,  to weave thru traffic with composure, and finish with a goal.  That showed real class potential.

I'd really like to see him (inside) at some stage.

I agree Chandler has the class but appears pigeon holed as a small forward which is where he played junior footy. Small forwards are often the most evasive and skilled.  Think Rioli. Think Betts.

In the scratch matches he's been playing as a small defender.

Yep, but we lack a Midfielder who can step out of congestion with the ball, and weave their way thru traffic.  They can be 2nd touch player, but we need that inside class to add to our grunt. This is also why I want another look at Salem inside.

Our centreman should be a classy player.

And I think there's room for a true rover these days, in the rotations.

I know hindsight is wonderful, but I wonder how many DL’s would now rather Ben King than May. I am a fan of May, but wonder if we had Ben King and then kept Frost as a result of not getting May, if we would be better off, certainly so in the long term.

Give me King any day of the week.

I was happy to trade pick 3 last year to Gold Coast for King.
