  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Caroline Wilson - a hypocrite?

I seem to recall this person, on her soapbox a couple of years ago, now quite happy to put Danny Ward's name on the front page.

Yeh, right Caroline - AFL has less room to punish punters.

SARCASM WARNING!

Back then, I'm SURE you had Daniel's best interests at heart.

No, you weren't thinking of selling newspapers.

Yours was a crusade for public morality.

[i gotta say though, your article today was appropriate].

"When Anderson hands down his decision today, or tomorrow at the latest, he will be aware that to suspend the punters — none of whom bet against their own sides — would be to concede that within AFL rules, their crimes were worse than that of a violent drunk."

Not to mention a trio of drug takers who have been caught offending twice and whose names are protected by the law!

It may well be fortunate for Wardy that Adelaide's Simon Goodwin is one of the other players involved. The word sweeping Adelaide is that the Crows would be mighty upset if Anderson came down with a sledgehammer on one of their top players.

Caro didnt put these guys on the front pagee - the AFL did.

They fell over themselves publicising the names. Caro's paper led the charge to expose the AFL drug takers ( with 2 positive tests) and only the AFL injunction stopped Fairfax.

Caro is merely seeking consistency of approach, although the issues of drug rehab. and gambling addiction may need differing strategies to help those involved.

I agree the articel was good, but target the hypocrisy tag at Anderson and Co. - they've earned it after all.

No, the player's individual clubs did. The AFL simply said they were investigating.

How are Anderson and Co. being hypocrites?

Why would the AFL care about that? Adelaide need to realise that their player has done the wrong thing and needs to accept the consequences of his actions.

I'd be suprised if they get the 12 weeks that was circulating yesterday.

They'd be worried if Adelaide took them to the Supreme Court over the fairness of the decision.

It would go to the county court first after the Magistrates.

The clubs are the AFL.

Drugs and gambling both have addictive aspects for some.

AFL had to make this a huge issue now they are taking $'ss from Betfair ect, to show they mean to run a clean game. (How that's possible with last minute team changes, and Sheedy naming Hird every week excapes me, but i don't bet anyway and wouldn't under this system)

The clubs simply beat the AFL to the punch, and iv'e heard nothing from Anderson's office about the inappropriateness of naming players in this matter.

I've tried to say away from this issue until I've been able to reconcile it. I'm getting closer.

I sympathize with the AFL, I think they are in a no win situation here.

1. Recreational drug use should never be tested. It's an invasion of privacy. If a player is caught in the normal course of events by the police and is charged with recreational drug use then they are subject to whatever the law provides and whatever their employment contract provides. How the AFLPA could ever agree to have the drug police walk into a players house at anytime of day or night and ask them to urinate into a bottle is beyond me. It's akin to the police having the right to walk into anyone's house, without evidence, and search for stolen goods.

2. Performance enhancing drugs should be banned and you should be able to test for them at anytime.

3. No player should be allowed to bet on footy, nor should any club employee. It puts the integrity of the whole competition at risk.

The recreational out of season drug users are being rightly protected by the AFL. It is not a matter of public importance. The players should never have been tested in the first place, it's a complete invasion of privacy.

The AFL have it right.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
