Makes compete sense to me.

Our key forward depth chart is scarily non-existent. We can't even lean on Tim Smith anymore.

We had to play O Mac at CHF in round 21, and he even went down (along with Petty) with injury leaving us with absolutely no-body to play key forward against Sydney in round 22. Our list management  got found out right there.

If we get this guy, what, will he get $250-280k?

Watts would have stayed for what 470-500?  Howe for an extra 50k on his current contract I am told unreliably.

I think the extra 220k gives you more flexibility.

I just can't work out the overall strategy and big-picture here?  When you get rid of treasure and lure in trash, you have no choice but to gamble big (Bennell/Murray) and scrape the bottom of the barrel until your finger nails bend backwards.

I can smell....a big rebuild in 12 months time and....

Clarko or Ross Lyon - 6 year deal 2021/2/3/4/5/6.  Ross Lyon + EI = flag.

Wouldn't be unhappy about this. Would be handy to have another mature forward for a year or two to help out TMac and allow some space for Weids and Petty to develop further. Another contributor of 20 to 30 goals would make an immediate impact for our rise up the ladder next year.

A bit meh, but worth noting that he would have finished second in our goalkicking this year. Not a terrible depth option.

Looks like we are getting ready for a big tilt at the flag.

Recruiting Langdon , Tomlinson, Bennell and possibly Murray to take care of our outside needs and now Mitch Brown for some more forward depth.

With picks 3 and 8 as well , and the players putting in a big effort over the pre season we look dead serious to achieve something next season.

So many players loved kicking goals against us, we couldn't just sign up all of them.......

Unreliable all right.   Howe went to Collingwood for less money than what we were offering.

Watts going was never about money, it was about running out of patience with an inconsistent flake.

What’s this treasure we got rid of?

I’m not sure if this is serious.

We only have a limited number of vacancies (5) to go into the draft with and one has been set aside for Harley Bennell.

If we are chasing Brown then it might be a sign that things aren’t working out with Sam Murray.

The numbers are flexible these days though, potentially we can add another 5 senior listed players, as well as another 2 rookies, one of which would possibly be Bennell.

According to the Fin Review:

"Andrew "Twiggy" Forrest's Fortescue Metals generated $9.1 billion in sales in 2014-15 for a taxable income of $208 million, on which he paid just $13.2 million".

Only 2 certainties, not 3.  And the last aint a badge of honour either.

I don’t know how that’s possible without further delistings (unlikely) as we have 35 on the primary list and 4 rookies making 39 of a possible 44.

It's 47 (maximum, flexible within) these days as far as I've found, so the break down goes:

AFL RULES
38 - 40 senior listed players
4 - 6 rookies
Up to 3 cat B rookies
Maximum total list size of 47 players

MFC CURRENTLY
35 Senior Listed Players
4 Rookies
1 Cat B Rookie

TOTAL = 40

On the proviso that we keep Maxy, I'd consider it ;)

I'd hardly break out the champagne if we sign him, but he'd be a cheap insurance policy for minimum $ - likely to provide more than a speculative rookie pick in 2020.

Speak for yourself, just because people don't bag the club does not mean they accept the performances of the club

The maximum list size is 47 which figure includes up to 3 Category B rookies. You don’t draft Category B rookies - you select them if they fit the criteria.

The discussion about drafting is limited to the primary list and Category A rookies of which we can have a total of 44 (currently at 39).

I had more interest in Walker, the reality is this is a post draft kind of decision. Or even later in the summer.

I have my reasons for doubting Brown on a no [censored] policy which I'll keep to myself as well as overall talent. But if he's desperate for one last go and we are suddenly in the position where depth matters then I could change my mind.

I'm sure the footy dept. will be relieved to hear that

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
