Did others hear Tim Lamb say in today's presser that we also had a late pick in this year's draft? It was difficult to hear the question that drew that response. The AFL website shows us with only 5 and 9. If so, and we want Yze, the late pick could be used on him or another Jason Taylor late draft gem?

Yes and they’re confident about drafting ‘a terrific player too’.

Scoop Manure still trying to push his own agenda alleging Oliver was 'desperate to get out'. This guy is just so desperate to get something right for once, that he'll make up is own story to suit his own narrative. Pathetic. I loved how Lamby shut him down. 👌

We got Brisbane's future 3rd rounder, traded our future first to Essendon and future third to Adelaide

We have as many picks as we have spots on the list. eg we could have 88, 89, 90 if we had the list spots

Actually a good interview by Lamb.

So as it stands we have Smith, Tomlinson and Hore out of contract.

From a list point of view where that leave us for list spots if say Tomlinson and Smith were delisted??

Assume it means our 5th round pick that isn't listed. Right now it sits at 83 but there's likely a few teams will pass by then and Brisbane will chew up most if not all of 7 picks to get 2 players in.

Carlton, Ess and Gold Coast will all chew up more picks than players.

The 5th pick of round 5 last year was 64, this year is deeper but that pick might be around 70.

Alternatives:

1. Lamb's an [censored] and has forgotten a pick somewhere that we dealt out
2. We have a deal in place to tidy up trade week that's been kept in limbo for some reason (exchange of future 2nd rounders with Essendon for a pick in the 50's?)
3. They have a player they feel great about picking with whatever pick is available, so when he says 'we've got one late' he means a player

(KFW - Metha/Irish? Cat B)

BBB - Kentfield (r)
Schache - Campbell
ANB - Sharp
Gus - 5
Hunter - 9

Tomlinson - Late pick?
J Smith - Rookie pick/SSP?
Hore - retained/SSP?

3 spots that aren't accounted for which is just about right. Would love another quality pick but if we have to pick at the back of the draft so be it, the rookies/train on guys to fill it out. I think Marty might be in limbo for a while yet.

Good trade period, Lamb has done well here...

Mate, no matter what you say, there'll still be a conga line of cranky Eyores lining up to take a shot at TL.

Wasn't someone in here potting him for not getting us a gun key forward? Cos they grow on trees and other clubs will trade them for pick 135.

Something not adding up for me… didn’t Lamb say we had a late pick this draft?

I think our focus will be our NGA prospects Riak Andrew and Mentha, Yze likely to go undrafted

Andrew might be the one we take with our late pick if he gets a bid.

You'd probably take the punt on the larger body in andrew over the smaller Mentha, but I hope we make room for both, they both have great stories and lots of talent.

I'm pretty sure I read that we'll potentially place Mentha on our Cat B list.

A much better interview by Tim Lamb. Was strong in his response to predictable questions from McClure. Liked how McClure became defensive when Lamb pushed back on his 'desperate to get out' comment.

Agree.  Lamb didn’t just accept the statement.  Really pushed back and was strong in his remarks.  Lamb was really positive in his comments on the list and our ability to rebound next year.  Obviously need to put actions behind words however it was a good response from Lamb.

Loved the body language, too; part angry, part ridiculing, part dismissive, part ignore.

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
