Some people value contracts too. What a funny inclination.

Going home is a different matter.

What else is there to do at Whorethorn?

Interesting that you've made comments in the past about people honoring their contracts yet this is your stance on them this time apparently. Assistant coaches can't leave under contract unless it's for a significant promotion, so given he's already strategy coach for the Hawks and that's the role we wanted him for then he can't break contract.

Plus, why would you do your career the disservice of moving your apprenticeship from Clarkson to Goodwin.

Contracts in the AFL are so easily broken now. It’s no big deal.

Going home to help break a 56 year drought is a significant pull. But he decided not too.

Fair enough. But I don’t think he will be shattered by it

Well, let’s see which clubs are looking for a new coach soon then, hey?

I would think one of his best mates would understand the situation better than you, so perhaps best to not make assumptions.

I find it incredibly strange that somebody would want that information out there. I would find it quite awkward knowing that my colleague was “sorrowful” they couldn’t be elsewhere.

You really know where to dig..

Doesn’t change what I originally said though. If you really want something, you make it happen.

Whorethorn obviously added Sweetener’s. They are good at that. They get what they want.

Don’t forget who taught them 60 years ago...

Not happening now.

He was keen. Hawks upped the ante, convinced him that his future was with them and that they expect him to honour the second year of his contract. Would have been a perfect get for our current needs.

He's apparently pretty shattered he wasn't able to make it happen.

Huh? Hawks convinced him to stay yet he’s shattered he not coming to the Dees?

Fairly sure it's all explained in the post mate. If not, keep reading through the thread.

Assistants get the blessing to move on when it is a ‘promotion’ at another club.

I believe it’s also a universal clause in assistants contract in the AFL.

It sucks.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. One of their last drills were three teams competing in a hard at it, handball game in a small area. Goody

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
