Have done this with a few knowledgeable football officials; and the results are interesting.

I've asked them who they would take from Melbourne if available; for their team.

Aside from Gawn there is not much interest.

Some will give up a 2nd round for Oliver; a few would take Jetta if cheap, a couple think they could make Frost work (in a different environment).  That's it.

That probably more accurate reflects our list.

Oh and ironically May is still rated, but not worth giving much up

Fine, but the referral system was invented to gives sides cover from bad umpiring decisions. We blew our last one on a highly dubious LB. Bad cricket.

The Club, overwhelmingly made up of Members, does learn a heap, year after year, game after game, of just how badly the team, the FD, the administration and its hangers-on perform as if these structures actually do not care. The players - under a constant pressure to 'rally' and move across the changing aspirations (or lack thereof) of a series of short-term procrastinators placed to supervise their 'development' and 'competitiveness' - do remarkably well in their demonstrated tolerance and hope of short-term 'turn-arounds' yet before they know it, their careers as footballers are over. 

Only Roos provided relief - albeit too short but the improvements and readiness factors were noticeable.

The Club across the board requires hard-headed determination alongside exacting performance criteria; and, if those accepting responsibility do not meet the Members' expectations across the medium-term, then they are to be rapidly terminated. There is a missing link between footballing success and footballing preparation. Just because such a link is not easily defined, it is also not to be ignored or under-achieved. 

Sack 'em, move on until what 'it' takes occurs.

Not disputing that Mazer. Tim Paine made a bad bad mistake, but i still believe every LBW delivery should go upstairs regardless of referral counts

Well the only saving grace for me from season 2019 is that we beat Hawthorn, and by doing that the Dorks missed out on finals!

Positives: Fritta's move forward.

Salem's first half of the season.

Frosty was more consistent.

Gawn was good.

Hore showed something.

Beating Hawthorn.

Negatives: Team was never fit.

Game plan was non-existent.

Tom Mac and Weed hopeless.

Injuries, particularly Melksham, Jetta, May, Lever, Smith, Garlett and McDonald.

Poor depth was exposed early.

Lack of leadership.

Brayshaw's season.

Hibberd looks washed up.

Yep, the DRS was created to get rid of howlers like the Lyon LBW appeal. What's the point of keeping it if it can't?

And I dislike the 'umpires call' with the ball that would've hit by half a ball or less. That's just confusing and dumb. It would've hit or missed. Simple.

The "hawkeye" thing that projects where the ball will go is WRONG

It is a guess and is not accurate

There was one dismissal some time ago where a bloke was bowled. Then they played the "hawkeye" thing and it showed the ball missing the stumps!

Don't put too much faith in hawkeye. That's why the "half a ball thing" is there. In reality the margin of error is probably more than a whole ball.

Because computer says yes. We've outsourced our humanity to machines

Longer, less cynical answer:

We have a natural desire for certainty

And a belief that the machines cannot be wrong

So we introduce technology to sport, to get more certainty than the human error that we understand, can grapple with, but do not accept

If we are going to do it, we should get the most accurate machines possible and then pronounce that we will accept the machine prediction, no argument, for better or worse. (All the while understanding that the prediction is an estimation and not an established fact.) That's cricket DRS. That's tennis hawkeye.

Or we get sh*tty technology and muddy the waters and get less certainty and more angst. That's the AFL review system

Yes, but that Lyon LBW appeal was as plum as they get. Umpire shat himself and couldn't make the right decision. Wouldn't have made it off the ground had the poms lost by 1 run

So true. My laptop was so close to being obliterated last night. 

That was Umpire cheating. He has been shocking all series...

 everytime I watch the Lions I get so [censored] they have everything on their list that Melbourne doesn't CLASS, POLISH, X Factor and a will to Win.

1. anyone who can't  hit a target should be delisted.

3.Oliver is getting cheap possession and needs to kick goals

5.max needs to be Captain

6.Goodwin  may be able to coach but Melb are still mentally weak and ROOS needed to stay two more years and ultimately I suspect he will be gone by the bye.

7. Players need to grow a set of big hairy grapes

8 . Please don't trade for another B grade plodders.

9. Sack. Chaplin and get Petracca a goal kicking coach
