The vast majority of our big names have signed on for 2020! The expansion teams can take up to 4 players total from us, so this is great news.

Locked in are:

Paxman (now a Club B&F winner and 3X All-Australian), O'Dea, Scott, Lampard, Cunningham, L.Pearce, Mithen, Newman, Hore, Emonson, Gay, Cordner, Smith, Zanker, Hanks, Guerin, Sloane, Sherriff

Yet to sign:

Jakobbson, Downie, Heath, Radan, Guest, Phillips, Kemp, Patterson, Woodland, Whitfort, Brancatisano, Hickey. And I guess technically Daisy?

The only other trade news of note for us is Libby Birch of the Western Bulldogs supposedly requesting a trade to Melbourne.

Good list of retained players

What about the Coach?

Pies have moved their man on and our same old same old positions finish on the ladder plus the failure to develop a real forward plan to ensure scores enough to make Finals plus win the close  games at Casey has hurt us 3 years in a row.

Our ladies team lacks at least a couple of flexible faster and skilled flankers and/or on ballers to break lines and assist scoring heavily, in short X factors ( like the Crows forwards) to go the next level and challenge for the Finals and flag.

We should be chasing Bec Goddard  if she is available to get a really aggressive and urgent game plan not the staid one that has failed for 3 years.

No doubt Mick Stennear is a popular coach but team needs should over prioritise popularity.

Draft picks only sign 1 year deals? Downie would be good to keep and presumably they have hopes for Brancatisano. The rest are probably all expendable.

And yes, a decision should have been made on the coach by now.

Agree, our better players have been locked in which is great news.  I assume Daisy will too.

Of the Yet to sign group Jakobbsen, Downie and Phillips are good foot soldiers but the rest have not (or are yet) to prove themselves.  Of course Hickey is at Geelong.

Can be 2 years from now on

Dint agree about expendable players !!

List if retainees  is good but needs an injection of class forwards quick and flexible to match goal scoring potential that has hampered us in the 3 years so far.

Next issue is why our game plan really doesn't stand up vs the top 2 or 3 teams.

Need more aggressive and urgent style IMO and that's the Coaches job do this is why I am saying a Change of Coach is necessary.

Meg Downie and Bianca Jakobsson have signed on for next season. This is good.

I was sure that at least one of these would go, given the expansion, but here we are. Good news!

A different Hickey! Yet to play, so another of the unproven ones.

All up we have 20 signed, which leaves 7 places plus 3 rookies. I think the rookies can only be cross-coders.

Yes of course you meant Jordann Hickey.  I’ve only seen her the one time playing as a key forward in the practice match against North. Didn’t impress enough to warrant selection during the season.  Better options elsewhere.

That the new teams are able to plunder existing teams is having a horrendous affect.  Bulldogs have lost their captain who is their heart and sole player and also lost their current B&F.  Carlton have lost their captain and the Lions have been plundered.

This is unacceptable in a fledgling competition.  The AFL should have done more to protect existing teams.

I don't know where Rich is getting all the money to attract big name players.  It has been suggested that some players are being offered 6 figure sums to change clubs.

I am very grateful that our core players are sticking with us.  But what is happening elsewhere is not good for the competition and does little to engender fan loyalty to a particular club.

Richmond are going down the Norf path. That worked out well.

Surely we need to find another decent forward - I hate to suggest it, but would we consider Moana Hope as a delisted free agent, although Richmond or St Kilda is more likely.

Am I right in thinking we don't have either a first or second round draft pick this year? Hence delisted free agents might be the only way to go, as our first pick is likely close to pick 50.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

    TRAINING: Thursday 9th January 2025

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
