As we take the trip down to Kardinia Park this weekend it is worthwhile remembering that sucker clubs such as ourselves actually benefit the Cats by a lot more per crowd member than the likes of Collingwood and Richmond.

This is a quote from Brian Cook in 2009 which probably holds doubly true nearly ten years later:

    Yep. We barely make a dollar on a 25,000 crowd at the G. Geelong get all of the corporate box revenue, advertising, a big chink of food and bev etc.

    Teams that have 'clean' stadiums cream it in terms of revenue. Adelaide, West Coast etc.

    It means a West Coast can spend in the order of $300,000 a week (!) more than melbourne. Thats one reason the soft spending cap was brought in

    Two of the biggest problems in the AFL. Stadium deals and the fixture.

    Well we aren't alone... I recall I read somewhere that we got a better deal under Steven Smith but can't find it anywhere.....

    Also its part of why the AFL has an equalisation fund. Other teams scream about 'poorer' teams receiving money but in reality this is part of the reason it is there.

    you may joke OD but I am sure the number crunchers at Essendon, Collingwood and Richmond salivate at owning a stadium between them.

    It's amazing how the MCG has been able to dictate terms to the AFL and the clubs over the years.

    I am not BB but as there is nothing available anywhere else Casey might win by default. It would be easier to get from VB!

    Not to mention that it's 2019 and we still don't have a freakin permanent, dedicated home base!!

    The Mcc are laughing...  hand in hand with their Bank Managers. all clubs add to their coffers.  

    More than 6 months of each and every year.

    The electorate of Casey is relatively safe LNP but it has little to do with Casey Fields. It centres more around Belgrave and the Yarra Valley.

     Pakenham was in the federal district of Mc Millan which has now changed to Monash ( first vote in 2019) but I think only part of Pakenham is now in that electorate.

    PS.. seems that Pakenham is now in Latrobe... projected LNP margin of 3.5%

    • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

      Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
