Can the mods uncensor Fenton-Smiths first name?

Some big names there from the old mans tales of the glory days.

What a ripper of an interview ET. Really appreciate this and I hope he’s being well cared for. What a character. Donegan did a great job.

loved the bit where Murray Weideman gave him a love tap in the “very lower stomach” in the 58 granny and (it sounds like) half the team we’re trying to get even.

I've got a vague sense (memory) that he was dragged, or injured...  can't remember exactly.  >>  memory as a kid... of that image from TV or papers?

What is it about these black and white photos which make people look so much older than they were? Is it the clothing? Or the hairstyle? Or is it just the way we think about older photos? Norm Smith was born on 21 November 1915, which means he could not have been any older than 49 when this photo was taken.

He died when he was fifty eight. I was shocked when I discovered this. I mentioned it to a friend who pointed out that until the advent of blood thinners and blood pressure medication, coupled with the fact most men smoked and that the basic Aussie diet was heart attack tucker,  most men died before they reached 70, hence the retirement pension allocation of the number 65.

Dieter, usually when I read your posts I think your name refers to your nationality; today, it seems that I should read your name as someone who is careful about what he eats.

Yes, I make sure I eat plenty. Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we diet. When I was a younger man and vaguely attractive to the opposite sex, one of my girlfriends gave me a fridge sticker: 'World's greatest Dieter.'

100% German/Jewish ( though I was sent to a Catholic school )- maybe a small % of Polish, on my paternal grandmother's side. One of my ex wives called me a Lady Eater because I didn't particularly like Pumkins (sic) in those days but I like them a lot more now that I'm old and lame and infirm.

HaHaHa...  please can you tell me what (sic) means?

I was bought up on a steady diet of Bismarckhering and Pumpernickel bread. I wasn’t the most popular kid at Primary School during summer.

Clever strategy from your parents. I bet you got to eat all your lunch without the school bullies stealing it from you.

I chewed on that to freshen my breath after eating Herring which had been sitting in my lunchbox in the warm classroom for half a day.

  • POSTGAME: Hawthorn

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
