I've just scrolled through that list and picked out twenty names that could all play. We should not have been bottom. Why were we? Injuries, coaching, culture, what???

I could only name 11 I think your overrating the team there. At best we should have been second last. We should have finished on top of Richmond.

No additional comment required really

There is one name on that list that still causes me to shake my head in bewilderment, disappointment and sadness.

Liam Jurrah

I still can't help but wonder where he might have stood today among the pantheon of MFC greats if his life had not gone to [censored].

Imagine if he and Daisy had a baby. It’d have a twelvehead.

I'm starting to think you have some sort of cross pollination fetish, Ethan.

Showing your liking for strange fetishes will get you a one-way ticket to Romsey Manor.  Tread carefully.

I was thinking something very similar.

Would be interesting to see what our "second 22" would be now, and how many of those names would have made the firsts back then.

The thing that stands out is the difference in the physicality of todays team v 10yrs ago

sorry, add the following.

Ball getting abilty

Leadership

It's a shame maybe a minder would've been a good idea in hindsight.

Agreed BBO, it does make one realize what a combination of qualities an elite footballer requires to make it at the top level.  We lament all of the players who have been delisted over the past 10 years but it is important to remember that they could all play to a pretty high standard but did not have what it takes to go to the next level.

In Liam's case he was the most exceptionally talented player I think I have ever seen but his deficiencies were just too great even with those remarkable talents.

pretty sure he had one sam.  I know at the time that much was made of the support provided to Liam.  One of his biggest challenges was walking into a club in complete disarray

Ah 2009, the good old days of training the house down??!

Jurrah was so gifted and so quick of footy mind and action that it was easy to miss the brilliance until after it occurred. I remember that 40m pass into the forward line to Brad Miller (I think?) surrounded by 5 zoning opponents. Absolutely centimeter perfect. I had to watch the replay on the big screen to believe it was possible.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
