We should get 4&5 off Freo.

Offer 4 to Port for 9/10

Trade Vandenberg with our 2 third rounders for pick 13

Use pick 13 for May and KK

Out: Hogan, VDB, 3rd roundeds

In: Pick 5, Pick 9, Pick 10, May, KK.

Hell why not then try use 5 and 10 for Kelly to top it all off.

My bad, didn’t mean to upset the King Arthur style round table that’s going on in here. Serious hat back on.

Or...... They could just give us every pick for Vanders

No, really.

Harassing a 23yr old as he flys out on a holiday, away from his job.... potentially making a life changing decision... you don’t see the issue here of ambushing him just to satisfy some weird need you have to know?

Of course not you seem to be a troll of the highest order. Only to appear when there is negativity or angst to spread. Some self evaluation might be a good place to start.

Works better for them as they want the academy points. Throw in the Kent pick if need be.

Look Port or Adelaide to package up picks to move up the draft to try to get the gun SA talent.

For example Brisbane to take 9/10 and 27/28 from Port for Pick 5.

In an ideal world Pick 10 then goes to Freo for Neale.

Freo then have 5 and 10.  We take both for Hogan. 10 goes to GC for May we keep 5.

Hogan cost us 3 and 13.  He is arguably the best key forward under 23 years old.  This is what we should be aiming for.

Right on brother.

The real trade victory will come if we can somehow convince GCS to let May go for pick 10 and hold on to pick 5. We might have to sweeten that deal for them by including a couple of mature players like Frost and Tyson.

The aim of the game for us should be to get May in the door for pick 10 and manage to hold on to pick 5 in the so-called superdraft.

The more I think about this the more I feel it has been instigated by the club...

They approached Jesse and said 'what are your plans going forward? If you are thinking of heading back to Perth it would be better for us to know now as we can do a better deal than in 12m time. Otherwise we will start discussions on a long term deal. We want you but understand you may be torn about staying. We're also planning our list for a tilt at the flag and don't want to disrupt it in 12m time.'

Jesse thinks about it. Flys to Perth, His manager chats to the Dockers. And here we are.

If so it is probably very smart from our guys.

Getting on the front foot probably allows us to fashion a better deal. In 12m time we might be snookered.

We’re not getting picks 4 & 5 for Hogan.

That may be our starting position but we will give a bit back to Freo in negotiations.

5 & 10 is much more fair and realistic, with Freo retaining pick 9 in the draft.

Also, no club is trading speculative third round picks and a fringe 22 player for pick 13.

Take the red & blue goggles off.

He's good alright. But every year there is a mdeia frenzy about him returning home. The club would want to lock him in but if he won't initiate discussions maybe they have to 'force' the situation a little.

The alternative says we wait until midway next year (with a massive media frenzy) and try to engage him on a deal....

So you are saying Treloar is a better player? Because he went for more than you are suggesting

Relax folks. Here’s how it will go down.

1. Dees will ask for picks 4 & 5. Straight up.

2. Freo will pizz and moan, say the deal is off and then eventually offer us the 9 & 10 that they receive from Port for pick 4. This process may take some time. We just need to sit tight.

3. We will ask for picks 5 & 9 and give Freo a deadline of say 24 hours before trade week closes or Hogan remains in red and blue.

4. Freo will pizz and moan and journos like Slobbo and McClure will continue to proclaim how unrealistic we are, only for the Dockers to relent and shell out picks 5 & 10 just as Mahoney gets out his mobile to call Hoges’ manager to tell him “deal’s off”.

Don’t be fooled what any hack journo is reporting - the driving force in this negotiation is the Dockers’ desperation to get this player they’ve been chasing for half a decade, on its books. Dees just need to be firm, patient and ready to get up from the table if need be.

They will cave at 5 & 10. Mark it down.

Melbourne ask for pick 5&6

freo offer picks 9&10

melbourne tell them 5&6 or 5,9 & Pearce or F off

freo cave and Ross Lyon signs an 11 year extension

That part is very, very true

I've hardly slept since he arrived with all the 'will he, won't he' talk

Yeah we will. Treloar was 7 & 7 and Mahoney has said that Hogan’s trade value is higher then anyone before him.

There was a pick back to Collingwood and 5 & 10 isn't really much different to 7 & 7.

Ok then.

Judd was traded for pick 3, JK(Taken at pick 4), and pick 20.

So based on Mahoney comment it should be more then that.

Treloar is a player of commensurate talent and influence at AFL level to Hogan. 7 & 7 is pretty much on a par with 5 & 10.

Of course Mahoney said that. It’s his job to set the bar high in advance of negotiations.

Spot on.

4 & 5 is too high for Hogan. Freo will strongly consider taking those picks to the super draft if we refuse to budge on that opening gambit.

Superdraft is so overrated.

Dont believe the hype.

Freo will make the deal.

Judd was pick 3,4(JK) and 20.

Hogan should be minimum 5 & 6.

Chris Judd was a three time All-Australian, Brownlow and Norm Smith medal winning, Premiership captaining superstar. In. His. Prime.

Not even in the same conversation as Hogan.

Now you’re just being silly Olisik.

Most of that was after the trade. Same way Hogan will also go into be an AA Coleman medalist, Premiership player ect after this trade.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
