Sorry but I’m simply not one of those people that hates a team for all eternity just because they smashed us yesterday. I’d hate about 17 teams if that were the case.

Which is why I can hate 17 clubs.

I have this dilemma as well.

My very nice, sympathetic Collingwood supporting but Melbourne member husband tells me that he is trying his best to get me a ticket to go with him to the GF.

I really, really do not want to go as I really despise Collingwood and dislike that American bloke plus I really dislike WC. I have a zero care factor about this game.

We go overseas the Monday after the GF so I am going to invent a crisis at work that needs my undivided attention all day Saturday and give the game a miss altogether. Think I will take myself shopping a buy a consolation prize for our team not making it.?

Sigh....I am going with my collingwood supporting partner...I was at Perth & saw eagles supporters up “close & personal” ....however I cant abide collingwood..in fact after attending many GF’s....I just don’t care

It is really hard to get excited. I feel bad for a couple of people that I know who are Collingwood supporters and cannot get a seat. I wish I could give my ticket to one of them but my husband wants to take me and that is that.

I have only ever been to one other GF and that was Pies vs Geelong which they lost. My most vivid memory of that day was Meatloaf?. Not sure if the Black Eyed Peas will be any better...

The things we do for love.

I just wish the boot was on the other foot and I was going to see the Dees play in a GF - then I would be beyond excited.

This is a really strange thing to say on a forum full of hardcore MFC fans who were still gutted over the result. Sound more like an all round fan of the game than a die hard Melbourne fan.

Trust me I’m both. I’m a diehard (shattered) Melbourne fan that just loves watching anyone play, particularly a grand final.

I was bitterly guttered when I missed out on a grand final ticket via AFL members. last Sunday. First grand final I’ve missed since 2003.

I’ve never been to a Grand Final and had no interest in going after what happened last week but I think if you’ve built up a sort of tradition of going for 15 years straight it would probably hurt to miss it.

Equally? So you’ve never barracked for another team in a game? Ever?

No, not equally.
Essendon and Collinwood top the list.
And I barracked for St.Kilda in the 2010 GF.
Doesn't mean I didn't hate them and the way they were coached at the time, just means I hated them less than Collingwood.

Yep, fair enough. Think we’re on the same page.

I wish this GF was cancelled.

you can usually count on the colliwobbles - so near, so far, so sweet

but congratulations for beating their own record for the most lost grand finals and pushing it to the amazing figure of 27 - outstanding effort

Is there an icy atmosphere in the @jane02 household tonight?

Believe it or not I actually feel sorry for my husband. He was very gracious in defeat. I know if it had happened to Melbourne, I would still be lying in fetal position wailing on the ground. He is a much better loser than I would be.

I can say the WCE supporters near me were obnoxious.

Bah to being gracious. Far better  being nasty, resentful and petty in defeat.

And Jane …. stick some knitting needles under your fingernails for feeling sympathy towards a filth supporter.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
