Not directly the camp but more than 50% of professional sport is mental.

Just look at our tennis stars as example, they have been blessed with talent but lack the mental application.

Making that 4 foot putt to win a golf major or kicking it through the sticks to win the flag. All about performing under immense pressure. Without pressure, any Joe down the street can do it.

The camp may or may not help at all, but I fear the boys don't want to push themselves to the next level.

A faux-tough commando cosplay weekend does not necessarily lead to better performance under pressure. Specific mind training can.

Bingo! That appears to be the burning issue. Any Joe down the street can talk about how upset they are after a harrowing rd 23 loss, but what evidence is there that they want to do something about it?

I’m saying all teams have injuries. We didn’t lose the mentioned games because Lever and Viney weren’t playing. I think mindset is the reason we lost, and that’s an area the Hawks have us well and truly covered.

I agree with you i just think there is a few more variables

The media are blaming the camp itself, The issue isn't the camp, or the fact we didn't go, the issue I think is why the players ran to the AFLPA and not the coach.

Was only a handful of younger players no? Also blown out of proportion for mine.

If Jones, Viney and Gawn had approached the AFLPA before the coach then that would be an eyebrow raiser but a few younger players seeking out advice is a bit of a non issue.

One of the questions for me is this: We now that we have to go over to Perth completely desperate and relentless with a never say die attitude to get it done. But I wonder what West Coast and their fans are thinking. Are they concerned that we might be coming at them with fire and brimstone? Or with everything that’s happened this year from the camp to the inability to step up to a crunch challenge, do they see us as someone they can kill off once they have us rattled with a bit of pressure? Perception might be reality here. There’s no doubt we’ll have to shock a few people.

We won 12 flags with out having to go on some stupid camp.

The saints did some type of camp a few years back, where their first year players deprived of sleep for hours, and we all know how well their going at the moment.

BUT you forget Norm Smiths pre season was akin to the worst conditions of any of these training camps of today!

we went on the camp last year and lost in R23? it's not the camp.

They were tired come end of last year, after an exhaustive season buy our standards.  and some pretenders who are gone.

We cannot use this reason again.

This year has been crueled by injury to key players... but shows our lack of real experienced depth.

He was the man?

The connection between Melbourne's cancelled camp and Melbourne's on-field performance has one significant upside: it is a perfect example of a non sequitur.
