I am perplexed by the bulldust around the Douglas bump on the sniper Merrett.

I understand a bump is not in itself illegal.

Douglas made no contact with Merrett's head.

So why was it a free kick and why was Douglas suspended for a week???

Look at it this way.

What if the AFL loved us (yes, use your imagination), Channel 7 loved us, the media loved us, and Petracca was knocked unconscious. Fairly or unfairly, doesn't matter. And Bruce was reduced to tears by the horrific spectacle.

The player who hit him would be made a human sacrifice.

The release from the afl said that new vision clearly shows Douglas made contact with the head.

I must be blind coz I can’t see any angle that shows that clearly.

If there’s a bump and a concussion. The afl will find a way to get the player a week or more regardless of the rules

Why hasn't Merrett been cited for forearming Douglas in the back of the head not 30 seconds prior to the bump?

That is a very, very good point. To think Oliver got fined for a minor jumper shove.WTF!!!!!!

That's bulldust: I'm not blind, Douglas went nowhere near his head.

The only contact to the head this video shows is with Douglas' left hand. His shoulder did not contact Merrett's head.

Admittedly the still shown above indicates the possibility that Merrett's head was struck, but another angle - you can watch it when you play the video - from in between Merrett and Douglas shows a clear gap, shows that Douglas hit his shoulder.

I saw it multiple times and was aghast that he was reported. Yes he chose to bump but I think he was careful not to hit the head. Yet to see vision where he did.

Also aghast at the maggot that overturned the decision on Bryce Gibbs from 30m away when Ray Chamberlain had a clear view of Gibbs throwing the bomber player to the ground.

The umps haven't covered themselves in glory in the first couple of games. Whats new....

Actually on reviewing the AFL footage he did make contact with his head. You can see it move back just before the body cannoned into Merret's body.

Cotchin should have gone for 3 weeks on this basis and as usual it will be the consistency that will determine whether the rules are working or not.

Michael Christian explains the decision:

"Oh look, we all got caught up in the romance and excitement of those brave Dons coming back from their awful victimisation. Gee, they're brave. It's like a movie. Actually, it's something biblical. The prodigal son. And how about that Joe Daniher! And Dyson. Ah, Dyson. And Michael, and Jade, and Jake ... and all the boys. They're like my second team, except it says in my contract they're my first team. So then ... when I saw that bloody animal coming in like that from the side, I just saw red. You're just not allowed to try to get the ball off a player who's so much braver than you are! I'd suspend the whole lot of them if I was allowed. That's what the new 12-man commission is going to-- oops, I think I may have said too much. Scrub that."

Absolute rubbish charge. The impact was under his raised arm. They hunted around until they found an angle that gives the impression of contact to the head. There are half a dozen others that show nothing. Adelaide should appeal for the good of the game.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
