They still need development, work on their flaws to balance out their game.

but the point specifically for wines was that he was essentially ready and was "low maintenance" re development......same as vineyl

Never heard of front/backloading contracts?

You are questioning experts in their field, all while using media reports as part of your weaponry. Truly amazing.

@TeamPlayedFine39 @DaveyDee

So, with the imminent extension to Wines' contract, can we presume that they will be breaching their salary cap?  Or do we put it down to list management doing what they do best?

I know which way I'm going.

So was Jake Stringer prior to drafting.

Yes true but it also shows how impressionable young players heads are, & the so called "already developed" argument is.

Read the first 2 or 3 pages of this thread, in particular, yours, mine and DaveyDees discussions.

You were hopeful that Port may have had salary cap issues, which could've forced Wines out.  I was telling you that they wouldn't put themselves in the position of forcing out Wines because of the players they brought in.

Now it looks certain he's extending for another 2 years, so I'm wondering what your thoughts are now on this topic.

Said their cap would be tight.

Their cap is tight.

Said it’s possible he could leave.

He hasn’t re-signed.

You said you never trust the football media.

He still hasn’t signed.

Can’t see what’s changed...

Ok, I will seek your views when this does actually happen, which it will, so I'd suggest you start considering your response.

I can give you my response now.

I never once said he would leave, not once. I said it was ‘possible’ and I even underlined that word for you on page 2 of this thread.

It was and still is, and forever shall be POSSIBLE that Ollie Wines could leave Port Adelaide.

If they sign him- great, good for them!

I can assure you of one thing - he WILL leave Port.  Highly likely that it will be at the end of his career, but you can take it to the bank that he will stop playing for them one day.

My initial issue was with your little fantasy of Wines being forced out of Port because of salary cap issues, but we'd be in a position to fit him in ours.  You can create any scenario with imagination, so I admire you for that, but your views on this one were always going to be off the mark.

Stringer had issues outside of the club, yes it impacted his game after a period of time, but when he was drafted he was ready to go.

Not like the Plethera of hopeless drafting the MFC embarked upon from 2008-13 under the astute guidance of our previous CEO Mr. Whiteboard, whereby we employed under weight and under developed choir boys who looked lovely wearing Blazers.

I don’t think anyone has ever drafted worse than the MFC between those years

Can you post the quote where I said we’d be in a position to get him under our salary cap?  I’ve never been of the belief that we have the money or the draft picks to get him over here...

Ah, so your contribution to this thread is that Wines could be pushed out of Port because of cap issues. But if that happens, we shouldn't be the ones chasing him?

I'm sure you can understand why I have misinterpreted your point.

The "already developed" term, was in reference to his footy development.. not his mind/emotional development. That's the point of the post, that 'the inner club culture' has to be strong, beneficial, & supportive, with strong discipline.

The doggies seems to me, a raw culture changing almost daily.  they were a young talented team without enough senior leaders who could hold things together.

They rode the crest of an emotional wave through to the Premiership, and never really got off that wave until it crashed ashore.

Now its spot the pieces, and pickup what you can find.

Stringer Wines and Grundy were my picks, to go with Viney, who was a lock for us.  I wanted big size mids in that draft. And those who had other skills, like forward skills. see (Grundy & Stringer)

It turns out the best options from hindsight show us that Wines & Grundy would have been the better partners for Viney.  And we had one of them in the palm.

Oh Toddy.

Petracca is to St Kilda what Wines is to Melbourne, chances of it changing negligible. Also unlike Port, I don't want McCartin in another year or two...

    TRAINING: Tuesday 28th May 2024

Veteran Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin returned to the training track to bring you the following observations from Gosch's Paddock this morning. Beautiful morning for training. The dew has dried, out from AAMI, quiet chatting. Maysie does his heart symbol. 7 in rehab, Turner, Hore, Sestan, BBB, Petty, Spargo and Schache. All in runners. Melky weighted and change of angles work. Salem has his individual program. White cap (no contact), Howes, Woewodin and Sparrow

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
