He won the Bernie Naylor medal with 73 goals, and a quick look at his highlights package shows he can play tall, and would present a decent marking option. He was overlooked at last years draft due to some attitude/professional issues but seems to have cleaned those up this year. An associate of mine knows his family from Geraldton and is of the opinion that an interstate move might suit him better, allowing him to concentrate on developing his game. Would be worth pulling the trigger with a late 2nd rounder, according to the AFL website we're one of 3 clubs with an interest in Ryan, WC and Port are apparently looking at him too. Bump. This thread has been at the back of my mind since it was first posted, and it makes interesting reading now. What a star he has become; maybe the most watchable player going around, just does everything so well and so coolly. Well spotted, Goffer! Have you seen any other gems in the bargain basement? 2 Quote
Lord Travis 10,817 Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 Happy to put my hand up and say I got this one wrong. Seeing him play in the WAFL I was convinced he'd never make it as he was such a lazy footballer. Shows what a strong AFL club environment can do for natural talent! 2 Quote
Cheesy D. Pun 1,765 Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 This guy is exactly the kind of player we need. 2 Quote

We've struggled with development for decades now and still appear mentally weak from a culture perspective. Kossi Pickett is just as talented as Ryan, so let's hope we can develop him into a player of similar output.! Quote

Pick 36 most likely I was a fan as the record shows. He was always a Yes so not surprised how he has performed at AFL level. Eagles grabbed him at pick 26. We had to settle for Charlie Spargo. 1 Quote

Re ch7, I think I caught a snippet of big nose pumping his tyres up a couple nights ago. I'll put my hand up to getting this one wrong Mcqueen. Never thought he'd be able to totally commit to fulltime footy. Was many issues when he was at Subi, but it's a big credit to him the player he's become and a big tick to Troy Ugle who has put some strong cultural things in place at West Coast 2 1 Quote
darkhorse72 1,941 Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Recruited later than most, obviously took time to mature and work out how to be successful at AFL. I gather some of that development happened at Subi. has they tend to have a mature side compared to other wafl clubs. Quote
layzie 34,527 Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Yes remember this thread quite well. Thought he might have had the blinkers in front of goal but that's clearly turned out bunk. Quote
