Is there a disconnect between supporters and the current crop of players.

I wouldn't want our players to have much of a connection to our supporter base. We are a battered, negative bunch. We need players who are self confident but also willing to learn from their mistakes. Let's hope we finally have that group.

My friend knows someone who works at Melbourne and said that people working  at the club have received angry and abusive calls from members regarding the finals booklet in the mail and that there's a real bad vibe around that area of the club and has left workers in tears. Interesting to see the vibe next year.

That is ridiculous, regardless of what you think about the management of the club or performance of the team abusing the office staff is sheer lunacy. Please make sure you let your mate know that that is a minute portion of fans who would do that.

These people would be better served turning up to the AGM and venting to PJ Bartlett and co - bet they don't though cos they'll get "stage fright" themselves and leave their courage at the door. Far easier to abuse 20-something admin staff over the phone

Im still trying to understand the topic of this thread. In some manner it suggests a failure . Of what ?

What IS the ' connect' between these parties supposed to be  ? The players connect to the team, the club.

We connect to the club. Where is the connection to players.

I find the supposition odd to tell you the truth.

This is probably the best thing I've seen you write on here. We are connected by the club. The days of beers in the social club is over. This is professional sport now.

Very good. Thanks Saty. I see you still don't understand the purpose of a football forum. Walk on, mate.

We also know the team never shows up when expected to win

Players should be aware of this and guard against it instead of being stupidly complacent

How can they be aware of this and guard against it when of course they know they have an easy game (of bruise free footy) and guaranteed victory

I go back to something that I think Mark Neeld said.  There are too many players on our list who are happy just to be playing AFL.  They aren't willing to do the extra work to play finals because their personal goal has already been met.

Wow. He did get one thing spot on correct.

My take us that there are many on the list who would like to be good AFL footballers, but who don't really want to put in the effort and sacrifice.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
