66 kgs is pretty light, will need to stack on some weight

Looks like we have some exciting talent waiting in the wings, should be an interesting couple of years.

If you look at the top 50 listed on demonland, it has Hayes going at pick 34. Sure, it was a very hard draft to pick, but there would have been reasons for him being tipped at going at 34, so we have got an absolute gem IMO

Have you seen him play?

You wont know until 2 to 3 years at earliest. He's young and raw and still developing.

I have to admit some bias to the Eastern Ranges lads, I see them the most so I put him at 34 even though I knew he probably wasn't going to get picked up in the main draft. Mojo31's profile was written before the season started and most people had him in the top 25 preseason, he had a very disappointing season in which he missed a lot of footy in the middle of the year and missed out at the U/18 Champs. I have never doubted that Daniel has the talent required to step up to the next level.

its an interesting one.

will need a lot of TLC as he went walkabout mid yr at eastern a couple of times.

having worked with the kid he is quick, good skills and has that aboriginal magic.

if he gets himself sorted mentally then the sky is the limit

Is it true that he has 'lost in" during games a bit like Jeff Farmer used to do in the past?

I didn't want to ask the question generally but considering you've worked with him you'd probably know.

this is danial pearce all over again, trust me!!!

pearce was exactly the same, killed all the camp tests, but only got rookied

he sounds as if he is going to be a great prospect, and can develop over the year, grow and fill out a bit, and go onto the senior list next year!

The kid comes in with decent talent and a good rap. I wish him well and hope he isn't saddled with a 'walkabout' tag before he gets a gig. <_<

I've been reading 180cm and 70kgs? Which one is correct?

Some years ago I worked with Aboriginal people and I don't think they would be happy with the use of the word "walkabout" in this context. Let's just say that he had some problems and needed time to sort them out.

He will probably know Matt Bate and Lynden Dunn through the Eastern Rangers. A bit of mentoring from them would be good.

Not trying to bring up race or anything, and you make a fair association with Bate and Dunn being from Eastern, but can you imagine two whiter kids on the face of the earth? I'd suggest the brothers would be taking him under their wing, along with weetra.

Dunn played with the Calder Cannons and Bate was at Melbourne last year which was Hayes' first with the Ranges.

He could be a bit of a fan of the Flash however, because he wore the number 36 at TAC Cup level.

Isn't it funny how three years ago no one wanted to draft skinny quick aboriginal kids because Leon Davis couldn't get a kick in games that mattered.

Bring in Davey who has dominated since his arrival and now every club is looking for that type of player.

Call me when Aaron Davey gets a kick in a final. I hope he can one day.

ADY.. Average Disposals per game for the Season

ADF... Average Disposals per Finals game for the Season

AGY....Average Goals per game for the season

AGF.. .Average Goals per game for the finals

SHD...Season high disposals

SHG.. Season high goals

Whilst there is a clear drop off in finals it's not huge when measured against the average of his performances for the year. He's clearly not produced a "game influencing game" in finals yet, but he's only played four and that's an unrepresentive sample size when taken against his 64 games

If you go with this type of player inconsistency is part of the deal. A HFF is also very hard to play and Davey now draws the oppositions top small defender which indirectly helps other small forwards.

I agree Old, he needs to produce in big games. But he's far from written off.

Thanks for the data Fan.

I do agree he is in the most difficult position. He's not a bread and butter accumulator he's a "match-winner" and we need him to win important matches for us. Same goes for Yze now. I'll truly start raving about them when I see something approaching season high in a final.

Kevin Sheehan , described Hayes as a possible " hidden gem " on SEN

After. He was giving a rundown of each of the new rookies in the first round. He explained that Hayes had started the year very well but was hampered by injury in the mid to late season. He said there was a big upside to Hayes and seemed to genuinely think that we might well have a "hidden gem".

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
