You've heard correctly GT.  Depth this year is non existent. Still some quality around where our first round pick would land, but most clubs wouldn't place a whole lot of value on our 2nd rounder, so could see our 2018 first being demanded in any deal for Lever.

If we couldn't get away with this year's first rounder and a player, then I'd try to bundle this year's first and next year's second rounder.

Absolute fall back position '17 & '18 first round picks, but with Adelaide's 2018 2nd rounder to come back in return.

I feel like this should carry some weight, but I can't remember a time that Barrett was ever correct about these sort of things.

Not necessary to get another defender,would prefer tall mid and a ruckman/forward. J.Smith could fill the tall mid/defender role. I don't think we should giveaway our first draft pick. Who cares if the so called Tac cup kiddies aren't as goog as last year,there will always be a potential star in the next draft.

I still wonder though, What if TMAC is having a honeymoon period, and he actually does get worked out at some point over the next few months or next year and should probably head back to CHB. With TMAC/Lever/Frost/Hibberd/Jetta/Hunt, we've got a very powerful defence. Even with OMAC as depth we can give him a few years to develop with Garland retiring.

Prior to the TMAC phenomena, quite a few in here were calling for us to bring in a mid-sized forward like Gunston to support Watts and Hogan or a ruck/fwd. Hopefully Vandenburg is injury free next year and can squeeze back in, and Kent can find his form. Weideman will obviously take until mid to late next year at a minimum before he can hold down CHF/FF. 

Now the quandary is how long will Weideman take? Can we actually look to the trade period to bring in a marking forward like a Gunston, or a forward/ruck to compete with Pedo at CHF as well as targeting Lever? Our forward line would perhaps benefit from trading in a player that could take the load off Hogan and Watts in the event that TMAC loses form as a forward.

Interesting trade period coming up, i think our priorities will depend on how our forward and defence cope over the next few months. Even if Defence is not our immediate priority with the forward line showing weakness, Lever is someone you just have to target. When Opportunity calls etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if Smith is being groomed as a forward. Learning the ropes.

He doesn't, so his contribution is questionable in my eyes.

Frost does some amazing things and he's improved a lot this season. Given where we are at I think it's about encouraging him to take the game on and back his talent and accept that he will make errors. 

For his mistake his marking and run and carry off half back has been a huge part of our improved form this season.

Yep, his decision making will continue to improve with more games experience. He is near hopeless when he doesn't take on the game, so I'll forgive one (maybe even two) holding the balls (leave it, bitters), as long as he's trying to take the game on. He's a massive asset when he's the rock in the slingshot.

And he will get better. It will happen less and less often as he gets more experience and he'll become smarter with ball in hand. I think he has massive upside as our third tall defender with oscar and hopefully lever

I think though, if we have enough guys around the ball putting the pressure on there is a good chance we'll get the turnover right back.  

We did that particularly well vs the Bulldogs where we had our share of turnovers but were almost immediately all over the Bulldogs players receiving the ball and most of the time got it back pretty quickly.

Last week that manic pressure was missing, making the errors from the likes of Frost much more costly.

They've said bringing that manic pressure back has been a focus this week, plus we've obviously had a few guns come back, so maybe the errors won't turn out to be so catostrophic if and when they occur?

There's a propensity for supporters to think that there's more scope for improvement for athlete type-footballers like Frost. Which is something I don't necessarily buy into once they're in an AFL system.

I value football-specific skills above all else at AFL level and I firmly believe that players like Frost who come into the system with questionable football-specific skills will only ever be able to improve them marginally. 

The areas of improvement I've seen with him this year are in the strengths he already has as a player, most of which being physical attributes rather than football-specific ones. His ability to to break lines and his confidence in doing so, his speed, strength etc. His marking and understanding of when to go for a mark has improved and that's about the only footy-specific skill that I've seen genuine improvement in. That being said, he still drops marks that shouldn't be dropped at this level.

What I haven't seen an improvement in, is in his ability to completely iron-out patterns of play or acts that are unacceptable and shouldn't be seen at this level. And it's those things that prove to me that he'll never be a complete player nor will he improve those areas of his game enough. The only thing he can do to avoid committing those kinds of game-changing errors is to play strictly within his limits of ability. 

The evidence is everywhere. The double fumble we saw against Adelaide. His failed attempt at breaking past two opponents when he had two team-mates free 5-10 metres ahead wanting a handball. That decision making process or lack of awareness was unbelievable at that moment. These are only two examples but I don't think people realise, that kind of [censored] rarely happened even in A-grade Amo's when I played. I don't see other players committing  the same kinds of acts that he does. 

As I've said, if we had a really strong key position backman plus Tom McDonald and one of Frost or O-Mac, then things would be different and he would be able to play a much more refined role. That's what I continue to hope for when I look to next year.
