As for Salem, you either don't get instruction on how to pack your back pack or he's too thick to do a simple risk assessment.

It's the latter. Put him the 'he's lucky he's a good footballer' category.

I'm assuming the reference to ajax is a typo or a Freudian slip and that you really meant to refer to the apex gang and not the team from the ammos that has occupied a middle of the road place in B Section for the past 5 or 6 seasons. I just can't see those lads attacking an AFL team myself. They're all nice boys who come from good homes and with few exceptions, wouldn't hurt a fly.

must have been freudian, jack. don't know a good shrink do you?

it will also be particularly handy next time they are attacked by terrorists (or ajax) in the middle of the night, or just woken by a crying baby in the middle or rem sleep

Ajax? The Greek warrior? Best defence against him would be sprint training ...

"I don't think he'd packed his pack properly. Instead of putting the brick down the bottom, he put it up the top," Jones said.

"He bent down to get something and with the loose weight at the top, the brick's flung forward and smashed him in the back of his head, which is unfortunate."

Not the smartest lad, is Christian Salem...

I find it funny that a lot of posters on here have lamented our soft mental state in games over the past few years. Then when the coaches run a tough camp to try and improve the mental toughness of our side, the same posters are questioning whether we should do it.

You can't have your cake and eat it to.....

So what you're saying is that I can have a piece of cake, but I can't actually eat it?

Or can't we see the forest for the trees, whatever that means... ?

As one who has never lamented our soft mental state in games over the past few years I do question whether this sort of camp improves mental toughness.

...so can I have my cake and not eat it or should I eat somebody elses cake????

What would have been your method of improving their mental toughness?

it probably is good for toughening up mentally (even if not a panacea)

this controversy is about risk vs reward and that is where it becomes very subjective

Surely DC means  Ajax -  'the so-called "White Tornado'.

I don't think these camps are long enough to assist with making one mentally tougher. Becoming mentally tough takes time and being subjected to a number of different scenarios over a length of time.

I think they're great for bonding and putting someone out of their comfort zone for a couple of days, but can't see a camp this length making one mentally tougher.

That said, the worse course I ever did was a conduct after capture course, I think it was around two or three days, still not sure. Arabic music blaring over a loud speaker for 24 hours while being put in stress positions and being woken up as soon as you nodded off. Then stripped naked in a chair and having ladies brought in to laugh at your package.

Not much fun really.

The saying refers to the idea that you can't eat your cake, but also keep it at the same time.

So in reference to the camp and mental toughness, we can't expect to improve the mental toughness without risking some injuries.

I don't see why...of course we will get injuries in the course of playing & training.

I just don't understand why developing mental toughness requires any greater risk of injury.

In fact I very much doubt that a 2 day camp will improve mental toughness in any way.

If there are any psych's on the site they may be able to shed more light.

On a personal note i think everyone needs to take a chill pill regardig the "Weekend Commado". Because of the specific nature of the training drills there will and can be unseen injuries or at least a high element of risk.

Because of this and just in case people are still unaware the MFC is a professionally run organisation now which is why they went on camp at an optimum trime frame and if anyinjury happened there should be plenty of time to be ready for round 1.

Regardless of injuries what Jordan Lewis is doing is phenomal pushing, challenging, the aggression plus add the sen best 22.....if Goodwin can keep the hype down i reckon wed might be a scary propersition

So they should do nothing? You realize the coaches don't expect a 2 day camp to be the answer by itself right? It would be part of an overall strategy with other elements and likely more similar experiences in the future.

Do you think we were better off when players decided if they would show up to training or not?

Sounds like just another night in Sydney Rd Ethan.

The best way to escape embarrassment is to picture them all naked.

And pretend to enjoy the music.
