Wide Trifecta and a wide F4 for me ... and I'm including a few of the overseas horses and a few locals

But it's a lottery especially with the weather closing in on the day ... Heavy 8 or worse and it's a crapshoot

And with the imports it makes it hard, you don’t know their form out here, how did they travel, did they lose a lot of weight? Is it back on? Etc etc etc

Wow Macca, I had no idea. I stopped following the horse once mate got out of it in 2021. It is flying since it went to Darwin by the look of it.
Funny you mention it today too, same mate has a runner in the last at Canterbury tonight, Nominator.

Anamoe toys with them and wins easily!  What an absolute star!  Magic ride by JMac

Royal Ascot on the agenda in late June!  The mile or the mile and a quarter is the choice

@JV7@Dee Zephyr@Gorgoroth@Go the Biff @Wadda We Sing @Redleg@Mr Steve

Lightning Stakes tomorrow and Gator has nominated Buenos Noches (15-1) to knock off the champ, Nature Strip

Certainly might be worth putting Buenos in a place multi as it can get into the finish if it gets a good run from the outside barrier (Grandstand side the best going?)

Some great racing though, in both Melbourne & Sydney with 10 Stakes races all-up

So looking for some value elsewhere,  here's my value tip

Flemington R8 No.3 Scallopini 8.00/2.40

Been away from the punt mostly, got some really big expenses so very little play money. But might be worth a small punt on those.

Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the tip!

The race to race place multi can often deliver a decent dividend.  I will sometimes do the 2/3 parlay place whilst including 3 value runners (for the odds)

As for the tip, it's just something that I reckon can run well. I bet for the win but my focus can be on place multi's ... a bit the same for short priced winners (multi's)

Coolangatta wins the Lightning!  Superbly ridden by Jamie Kah

I Wish I Win flew home for 2nd.  Ideal prep for the All-Star Mile

But all credit to the former Magic Millions winner.  Royal Ascot well on the agenda this year, according to the trainer

Excellent tough, brave win to Scallopini!! Superbly rated by Damian Lane

It's a more than decent horse that was better than the 7-1 win odds on offer (early doors)

Cheers @MaccaScallopini rounds out the day nicely

Hindsight tells us that Coolangatta was the one in the Lightning.  Only carried 53.5 kgs which was probably the difference in a driving finish.  Newmarket & TJ Smith next up you'd imagine but they also need to prepare for Royal Ascot

Buenos Nachos just needed it a bit further but one to watch.  I was on Osipenko in the Hobartville as well so a decent day

Stable are looking at keeping him to sprinting trips this prep. Next stop - the Newmarket. That was a pretty decent audition for it

In Secret,  Giga Kick* & Coolangatta will offer fierce opposition in the Newmarket, GtB, but I Wish I Win's finish on Saturday (in the Lightning) was spectacular

Private Eye & Buenos Noches will be powering home as well you'd imagine

So it will be another fabulous rendition of the time-honoured classic (March 11th)

The All-Star Mile is on March 18th so could 'I Wish I Win' back up so soon a week later up to the mile?  It's got the 3rd most votes so far so it's assured of a start

*Giga Kick might only run in Sydney this Autumn (Challenge Stakes, TJ Smith Stakes and maybe then Royal Ascot?)

Footnote: There's talk that 'I Wish I Win' might be entered for Royal Ascot as well

Gator's 2/3 parlay is worth passing on this week

Sandown R5 #2 Pericles 3.30

Sandown R7 #12 Steel City 5.50

Sandown R8 #1 I'm Thunderstruck 3.70

Close on 70-1 for the treble

Big meeting on at Geelong today including a sprint race worth $500k ... a crack field  assembled for the race too (R7)

The race prior (R6) is also a good betting event (Country Oaks)

Few week ago I brought Mirco shares in a couple of race horses. Now I most likely own the wart on their backside but it has been the best ride I have had for some time. Never going to make any money but I highly recommend have a go it you have a few dollars.

Moir Stakes tomorrow night looks to be suited for 'Imperatriz' again but it's at very short odds.  Whilst I reckon it will win again, Rothfire & Uncommon James represent the value.  Maybe the exotics?

Up in Sydney on Saturday there are 3 big Group 1's.  2 firm favourites in the Metrop & the Flight Stakes but lots of value in both races.  The Epsom is a wide-open race

Click on any of the links for the Previews

Metropolitan Hcp

Flight Stakes

Epsom Hcp

Imperatriz sets another track record in winning the Moir Stakes!  Staying in Melbourne too bypassing the Everest.  Next up the Manikato Stakes then the sprint on Champions day at Flemington

What a star!  Just cruised up and whoosho!

Earlier, Amelia's Jewel won the Stocks Stakes in fine style ... so it's the Golden Eagle or the Cox Plate on the horizon (close enough to favourite in either race)

Oaks day tomorrow and Zardozi ($3) will be hard to beat in the feature event

Dangers might come from Basilinna,  Aethelflaed & Amazonian Lass (all at value odds)

Tropical Squall has claims as well

@Gorgoroth @JV7  @YearOfTheDees  @Go the Biff  @Dee Zephyr  @Biffen  @Clintosaurus  @Mr Steve    @Redleg

And it's not over yet!  Caulfield Saturday and it will be an interesting experiment by the MRC with regards to moving the Thousand Guineas from mid October

So there's 3 good betting races (2 at G1 level) to round out the Spring carnival (although the Perth summer carnival at Ascot does provide some keen and competitive racing)

Anyway, here are the 3 races and odds

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • POSTGAME: Geelong

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
