Jack Trengove overcame great adversity to return to AFL football after almost two and a half years in the football wilderness with a broken navicular bone. Although he was unable to hold his place in the team after three games, he completed a return to good health with some solid performances with the Casey Scorpions and was given an extra year on his contract which affords the former co-captain the opportunity to re-establish himself as a regular in 2017.

Certainly a great story of persistence and courage: it will however be difficult for him to regain a place in the 22 given the increasing emphasis on pure speed, but if anyone can achieve a return through hard work and focus it will be Jack.

Goes without saying, but 2017 will be make or break for Trenners.

Really hope he can re-establish  himself within the team.

He needs to either improve his speed quite a bit, or find a role where he isn't found wanting in this area, i really hope a full pre season can help him recapture his early career form and he'll be a huge bonus for us going forward. 

either way he's proved the doubters wrong and made it back to AFL level for those few games which is a gigantic effort, if he can do that i am backing him in to find an extra yard and lock his spot down

Given his entire preseason was spent in rehab, and managed to earn a couple of games in the middle of the year, I would say that 2016 was an absolute success for Jack.  As has been pointed out frequently, his speed is definitely a concern, however, knowing how professional he is, he'll spend his "holiday break" making sure that he starts day 1 of this preseason at 100%, giving himself the perfect platform to work on areas of his body and game that he has been unable to for the last 3+ years.

Not saying that he will make it, but I just really hope the guy gets an uninterrupted run to see if he can make it.  We know he has the brain to be an excellent player.

I agree Billy 2803 - nothing would make me happier (in a footy sense) than to see Jack play 200 Games for the MFC and be a part of our Next Flag or So,....... Good Luck Jack !!!

He will smash it. I get sick of hearing about raw speed all the time. Some of the best players in the comp are not fast. Skills and decision making are the key. I see him on half forward flank with a great pair of hands and clean ball use. Just needs to get his confidence back and his foot rehabbed so the penetration in his kick improves.
