With the Lewis deal done, and us now knowing what picks we have now got, I wonder if we are offering Pick 29 and 68 for Hibberd and 41.

Would give us our first pick at 41, but our 2nd pick at 57.

I was close!

Massive difference between getting a pick back at the start of the 3rd round compared to the start of the 4th.

Hibberd + #59 for #29 and #68

As it stands our picks are 57, 59, 84, 102, 120

Can't say that is a good outcome.  ok for upgrading rookies but not much else

I wonder if we're working on getting another deal done to get back into the second round.  Can't complain about our trade period though ?

Considering the "experts" had us just doing a straight 29 for player, I think I'm by far the nearest to the pin.

Thanks for your encouragement though, Seraph! :)

It is the equivalent of pick 35 (186 points), so while we dont get into this draft until the end of the third round, I think that we can all agree that we would have been happy with this at the start of trade week.

Damn, would've liked it if we hung onto pick 29. Though I get the feeling we're not done yet....

I am happy for us to compromise 1 draft year, and go in next year with a full hand. We have enough youngsters at the moment

There is a possibility we could get an upgrade on pick 57 for Dunn, then use that pick and upgrade Wagner and Smith.

As much as I would've liked to use next year's second, we have brought in that many kids over the last 3-4 years so not too concerned about having a year without a lot of draft picks.

We may also still trade next year's 2nd with another pick to try and get back into the 2nd round this year, who knows!

Let's see how things pan out first. We'll know for sure at 2pm tomorrow.

Sorry but I think we got trade raped

How?  Hibberd is worth a 2nd rounder, which we used, then upgraded our pick 68 by 11 spots.

Think it was a fair deal all round to be honest.

Next move should be: Trade Dunn and 57 for Collingwood's pick 47. Use pick 47 in the draft and then upgrade Wagner and Smith.

Equivalent of pick 35 is fair.

I'm not too fussed about not having a 1st and 2nd rounder this year. We've had 4 top 10 picks the last two years. We can afford to miss a year.

Why the rush to upgrade the rookies?

I agree. It's a good enough compromise that both sides should be happy

Why?

Hibberd is a very very good player, and will make a great structural difference to our side, by allowing Hunt and Salem to play wings. He is in his prime at 26.

Pick 29 has a 50-50 chance of being a dud.

We have so many kids on our list, draft picks aren't what we need right now.

Good deal, and welcome Hibbo. My Essendon friend is crying into his coffee as we speak!

Because I think those two guys will be better than players we draft with those picks.

One year not going to the draft is alright by me. If you think about it, Oliver would be in the top 3 this year, and Weid would be the number 1 forward this year (if they were in this draft class, all things being equal) and we got them both last year.

We have also added Lewis and Hibbard which is a big win for us.

Not worried about the draft picks this year, we will get who we get it doesnt matter if they dont go on to be guns. We have a first rounder again next year and a free agency period with a lot of juicy free agents. We're in a good spot.

And because we don't wanna waste good picks next year upgrading players. Might as well do it this year with late 4th/5th round picks.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
