Sweaty hands and bodies may well make it greasy instead of the weather. I too have been puzzled by the assumption it will be, nothing in the weather say it will be so sweat is the only other option I can think of.

Well if being sweaty makes it greasy then why do we play talls at all anywhere?

Weird!

Weird!

I was talking about degrees of sweaty, obviously you sweat less in a cold Melbourne than a hot Darwin.

Was just a theory behind why it will be 'greasy' as everyone keeps saying, and as the players have noted in past years.

Looks like Capt Jones agrees with you Chris.  MFC twitter:  Jones: some of the boys will wear sweat bands - there is a lot of sweat from playing up here

Also from Ross Lyon: ...but more so the humidity — it will be quite slippery.

Both teams preparing for humid, sweaty conditions. They are certainly not helpful for our ball handling which is still suspect especially hasty, poorly judged handballs.

Happy with the ins and outs but I would still rather Dunn ahead of O-Mac for this game.

Is the perfect size and matchup for Pavlich and the role given could have really been a simplified lockdown one that would suit Dunn's limitations. At his best as a defender, he has been very effective and I can't understand why he is still out of the side.

We have been leaking goal simply because O-Mac and Frost are in the side and Tom takes it upon himself to do things he shouldn't simply because the support is not there.

I don't understand it frankly. Dunn has been out of favour pretty much all year, and nobody knows why. Usually when ex-leaders and really experienced players are made to play ressies, they bounce back relatively quickly to play seniors again. Especially when there's an underdeveloped 20 year old who is hardly holding his own taking his position..

It's getting [censored] annoying.

I know posters think we lost the game last week due to a 'lapse' in the third which might be true. But it wasn't because of the midfield. Watch all of those goals starting in the third and you'll see that we conceded those goals due to a lack of intensity, experience and smarts in the backline. We conceded easy goals from there when we didn't need to.

Pavlich is far too strong, smart and experienced for either one of O-Mac or Frost.

agree with all of this. and where's Clarry.  I havent seen the kid do anything wrong yet.  Quite the opposite in fact i reckon.  dont see us winning this one. and i hate being negative.  i feel it in my bones.

Clarry will be managed for the remainder of the year. He will be in and out of the side as they prepare him for a huge pre-season. They will want him to put on some muscle over summer and build a bigger fitness base and hopefully he will be able to play a full or close to full year in 2017.

Grimes, Trenners, M Jones and the like will get opportunities to make bids for contract extentions as a result of these rotations. I would expect to see Tracc, possible Stretch maybe Omac and Hunt as well have weeks off or games in the 2s just to give others a run and to prepare for the summer. Yeah they will try to win games but the back half was always going to be about building for next year.

Here is an article by Martin Flanagan. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/afl-season-2016-melbourne-finally-give-fans-something-to-cheer-about-20160708-gq1drn.html where he talks up the team and where it is at.

Nonetheless, he lays down a challenge of sorts: "In the past, if I had written something like this, the Dees would respond by notching up some ignominious defeat – like losing to lowly Freo in Darwin on Saturday. Right about now, that also has to change."

Have to agree with that conclusion!!

My favourite line was this: '... it is necessary to mention young backman Jayden Hunt. Slim and fearless with a head of blond curls, he comes out of defence like an arrow fired at a target behind the goals."   Delightful prose.^_^

Re Hunt - I am so glad we resigned him before the rest of the world discovered we had him:cool:

Will it really be that slippery?

I thought it was the dry season in Darwin and the humidity wasn't too bad. I think when we had these games in May, it was way more slippery.

Can remember in our Darwin game last year V' West Coast (also in July), Jack Darling and others were clunking marks like it was a dry weather game.

Yeah they will try to win games but the back half was always going to be about building for next year.

nothing artificial about your wisdom.

Don't disagree with any of those changes, but would question whether two changes is enough. Vandenberg in particular is very lucky.

Hopefully Grimes gets at least the three weeks that Michie got earlier in the season to show his stuff. Ditto for White.

Bugg should only be in the side if there is a hard tag, as against Collingwood. Otherwise he is a liability. Dawes should be made to kick at least six goals in the VFL before he comes back in to the senior team.

The club has said that one of the McDonalds will play forward this week, so we can cover Watts going in to the ruck.

Would need a 3 year contract extension to pull that one off.

Probably makes no difference, but the game is on Saturday, unless I am mistaken.

Why did we resign him Lucifer? He was looking so good

This is a game we cannot lose if we are looking to seduce stars across.

Too many times in the last decade, have we found an excuse to lose to a mob near the bottom. "They were top 4 last year", "They have had a long injury list", "They have stars who were playing under their ability until this week" etc, etc, etc.

Lets make a statement, and nail this mob to the wall. Bugger the short break, stuff the heat, ignore the age/experience profile.

Just give us a damn win Melbourne.

Nope. But we always knew that. He's barely best 22 this year.

I wouldn't be writing him off like that, but currently I'm not sold on him going forward.

Needs to clean up his disposal, a lot, and add a bit more to the side than just some aggro and tackling.

I'm not convinced he can tidy that disposal up. His ball drop is ordinary.

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. Once again the club’s top goal scorer but he had a few uncharacteristic flat spots during the season and the club will be looking for much better from him in 2025. 2024 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence. The first round draft pick at #13 from twelve months ago the strongly built medium forward has had an impressive introduction to AFL football and is expected to spend more midfield moments as his career progresses.
