Didn't quite know where to put this one, I've been watching the replay against the Hawks in 2003 throughout the afternoon interspersed by wrangling kids.

Jeez, it took me back to being 23 and my adoration of Neitz.

It's fascinating to me, reflecting how, literally E.V.E.R.Y T.I.M.E  the ball was kicked in to our forward line when you watched it on TV, there was Neitz, like a [censored] colossus, either standing his ground, smashing packs, merely impacting in subtle ways because of his aura/reputation, taking 2 opposition backman etc etc.

Essentially, watching the replay, I recognised the joyous anticipation of what couldn't be seen, left or right of screen when the ball was kicked from the centre square.

Some good years back then eh!

Shows the value of a good strong key forward and good leadership too. We are crying out for both right now!

We had a good strong key forward in J Hogan - sans the leadership.

Just our luck another forward talent (post 1994) slipped through our fingers.

I've had the fortune of meeting Neita on a charity event for mnd. Believe me he bleeds red and blue.

Looked pretty bloody happy during the 2018 finals run on the telly. I got a huge kick out of seeing blokes like Neitz and White et al, totally rapt with the two wins.

Neita  was so tough l used to feel for opposing players! He only knew one to play : hard! He would never shirk charging into a pack and knocking down the opposition. And I can’t remember him getting injured .A really tough player but fair. And a great leader.

Neita spoke at a MCC/MFC members function I went to with my dad last year. He was awesome - he told some great stories and the crowd loved it. Top bloke

I get what you mean about 'feeling' he never got injured. Broken Jaw on both sides over in WA was one I recall...

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
