Howe should stick to being the lead singer of Maroon 5. He's a lazy plodder.

Speaking of plodders, how is James Aish working out for the Pies?  He's been beyond terrible this year.  Couldn't get a softer, or weaker, player at the moment.

Great player that he is, I am nearly at the stage where I can't watch Joel Selwood play. The constant staging, ducking his head, soft frees and arguing with the umpire is really annoying. Also he seems to get away with constantly instigating incidents and then gets free kicks, or the other player reported. Today, in the first half,  I have seen him twice rough up a player, who had received a free kick or mark and yet there is no 50 against him. He is a totally protected species and is being umpired completely differently to other players.

I am disappointed to say this, but he is becoming my least liked player in the AFL.

I also wonder if Paddy D is embarrassed, about that late bump from Redden, which caught him lightly in the side and after he made sure he got the downfield free, he got up and pretended to rub his jaw, which brought mirth from the commentators.

Clearly some clubs players, like the Roos for example, often stage for frees and disappointingly, get a reward for it.

What's the common denominator between North Melbourne and Geelong? And now you have your answer. The two little w*nkers who whinge the most, coach the most protected teams.

He's a Jimmy Toumpas clone, I never understood the hype.

Spot on - I hate to make those comparisons, but you could even call him a poor man's Toumpas.  He is seriously that bad.

Likewise, had no idea why any club went so hard at Aish. He is a clone of Toumpas.

Is it Queen's Birthday yet?

In the games I saw Aish play at the Lions, I saw nothing to want him.

I tipped the Pies, but I really would like to see the Blues keep their winning margin. Something about the Pies' unwarranted arrogance just annoys me.

Why does Tim keep calling hands 'scratchers'?

Everyone knows they're "dukes."

The Eagles have certainly been worked out. Does Simpson have another reply?

I thought they made a big show a couple of seasons ago of saying they were going to fine players or award free kicks for staging. Whatever happened to that?

Port Adelaide times 2.

Slightly different though. Because they were ordinary in Simpson's first season and then he came up with a Plan B. Now that's been worked out, it'll be interesting to see whether he has a Plan C.

Flicking between both games. What has happened to Jetta? Apart from being in poor form he's in poor shape.

The guy has a shocking attitude. Came in full view in last years final versus North Melbourne. The bloke wasn't even trying.

blues are playing okay footy but the pies have been shocking this year after so much hype, most of it self-generated.

blues will match up well on us again, just as they did last year.

and i agree with everyone - aish plays like a softer toumpas. at least toumpas tries to tackle.

Carlton could win 3 in a row here. Another slap in the face for us.

Meh.  Too many Melbourne supporters worry about what other clubs are doing.  Who gives a stuff if the Blues win 3 in a row?  Has nothing to do with us.

Just highlights our impotency.

Highlights nothing.  Blues played some decent footy, against 3 rubbish sides, while we are still working on our consistency.

Andrew Walker should get a maccas award if he ever keeps his feet.

Like consistency beating rubbish sides? Waiting, waiting waiting.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
