Tom McDonald (and Oscar) SIGNS.

Our biggest issue is that McDonald hasn't come on as the rebound/intercept defender we so desperately need. He rarely crashes or splits packs and is poor by foot (yes i'll have DL peolpe insert his efficiency, but this does not exclude the cheapy sideway kicks defenders often do and should ALWAYS hit).

To be fair to McDonald, up to the half way point last yera he was coming on very well.  Hit some poor form and adapting to a new defensive structure this year, but I get everyone's frustration with him.

Another VFL player who could also be worth watching (also from Casey) is Declan Keilty.  194cm & 88kg who can also ruck & is only 21.

There's options out there if Tom decides to go the way of Chip.

Correct. Tom is a great guy and I am not for one minute wanting to hang him out: let's face it, none of us are playing league footy; however, if our defence is going to improve then Tom's form needs to as well and he needs to learn to 'defend' in a way of hitting packs more than running off opponents and being offensive: I think a big problem is that he hasn't had Dunn taking number 1 forward which has helped in recent years.

Having said that, the money he is holding out for is too much for someone that has his limitations. I use Dale Morris as an example all the time - someone who has made a career out of having average disposal but learnt to "defend" and is a seriously good player.

To be honest I'm not all that fussed about the status of TMc's contract.

TMc can wait as long as he likes.

Of the 12 OOC this year, the most important re-signing are: Watts and Jetta.

Would like to see them signed ASAP!

Then worry about the next string of players:  TMc, O'Mc, Kent, Frost, MJones etc etc

Edit: removed Tyson from 2016 OOC players.

Tyson isn't out of contract is he? This is the first I've heard of it.

My bad. Will fix post.

My priority is still to extend Hogan. If we don't extend him this year, we may not get suitable compensation for him end of next year (despite it still being trade)

No stress. Agree though, Watts and Jetta are vital signatures.

Still yet to sign....(despite people saying it would be announced two weeks ago).

If letting him go meant we could sign-up a better KPD, i'd be happy with that.

Try and find one late in draft, and keep Frost down there permanently.

Like McDonald?

Yes, we did that in 2010 with pick 53, then again in 2014 with pick 53. Their names were MacDonald.

Try and find one that CAN dispose well and CAN defend

Harsh on Oscar, but Tom has nearly played 100 AFL games...

I'm wondering what you expect to get 'late in the draft'? The Jacob Weiterings of this world will be well and truly gone by them.

Hands up anyone who can think of someone available that may fit the bill..........

Tom is fine as the 2nd up. He wants a pay packet like a #1   He's NOT that good. Not THAT complete.

700 is high..I do wonder how it fits into the new ideas re cba.

Wowee id happily trade him out if hes demanding 700k. An overated defender who has been ordinary this year.

Starting to sound like hes mate Jeremy Howe. But i have full faith now that PJ Josh Mahoney and Todd Viney won't budge like they did with Howe last year.

Who does this bloke seriously think he is.

Why do people take figures quoted in the media as gospel?

dont...its a talking point..

I'm not sure 700k is quite as far "overs" as everyone else is suggesting. He makes some mistakes, sure, but he's in the best handful of young KPDs in the comp.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
