He was okay but tried to do to much. Forgot how fast he is but got caught too much.

Casey's other issue was that so many players were having their first  hit out - a few of them from injury. Lumumba would be happy with his high possession game but his disposal and decision making needs improvement, otherwise he will be a liability at the higher level. He got a bit of the footy but turned it over too often and, apart from that early piece of play where he bounced three times and goaled, he didn't do near enough. It's not likely we'll see him anywhere other than at Casey. Sam Weideman had a few flashes of play and with the heavily built Liam Hulett will spend some time at this level finding their feet. Mitch White worked hard in defence but was often outrun.

The shining light was Jayden Hunt who has great pace, is a good kick, is clean and has composure around the ball. It was a promising display in defence. I asked in a thread earlier this year whether he could make it and I now think he will. The Glenelg pair Billy Stretch and ANB worked hard but found the going hard against some tough bodied opposition. Viv Michie didn't do enough if he wants to be elevated from rookie status.

He is possibly playing tomorrow. Was very prolific in the first quarter but obviously not spending all his petrol today and did not even play the last quarter.

He got involved in a few good passages of play. But in a team badly beaten all over the ground, and his 1st run with Casey, too early to make judgement. Wore No12 and has a nice build, From what I seen today he needs to find his feet and get involved more.

Of the Casey players, a few times Tom Baker (not sure of his background) took some nice grabs, and moved well. But as mentioned, delivery to the forwards was terrible.

Jordon Moncrieff (son of hawthorn player) showed a bit. But it was a bad day for Casey, and not much to brag about.

Apart from abysmal delivery, it was one way traffic out of the middle for the last 3 and a half quarters. You always struggle to score when that happens.

Lets hope Jake Lovett lifts his game this season,  & gets to be a farther/son pick this coming draft.

It wouldn't hurt to have a rest before the season opener,  but we also need to maintain forward momentum running into the season.  I'm sure he'd want to play.

How many former AFL players or experienced top line VFL players do Casey have on their books? Not many by my count. Jack Hutchins might be it from the former AFL camp and not a lot of VFL experience. 

I'd like to hear that a few more of our players took the game up to them but I'm not surprised Casey lost. They're going to need a decent compliment of AFL players and in particular more experience on the ball and across half forward to be any chance of beating good VFL sides.

Reported on AFL.com.au that this will be Jack Trengove's return to competitive football.  Might have make the trip down to Casey to cheer him on.

Inside word is Yarran Jaffer-Williams is getting a call up to the seniors this weekend. I kept a close eye on the kid, his defensive pressure was unbelievable, I got some stats which read he had around 23 disposals (11 in the last quarter) a running goal from 40 out and over 5 tackles! Caused a few holding the balls and every tackle he made lead to a stoppage; above all created MANIC pressure inside 50, chased and tackled like the Davey brothers. In the Dev game where we won by 6 points after the siren; I'm absolutely stunned by the impact this kid had in his first ever game for the club.

Kid was unbelievable, I'm getting very excited as the source I have is a VERY reliable one. He'll play alongside the likes of Lumumba and Brayshaw, what an experience and look to cement himself a place for round 1.

I also hear something about him running a 6min 20second 2km time trial, remarkable considering this is the kid's first proper pre season since 2014. Will watch him with keen interest vs Port Melbourne.

He was a member of the QBE Sydney Swans academy and also represented the NSW/ACT Rams state side. He played primarily for the Sydney Swans Reserves and Sydney University. Jaffer-Williams was a highly regarded Swans academy prospect under the tutelage of now Demons mentor Paul Roos.

He's around 175, small forward/wingman but for an indigenous bloke has an unbelievable tank. He's very quick and agile. His kicking hurts him and they're working on it atm. Roosy knows all about him, he was one of Roosy's former top Sydney Swans Academy pupils. They even caught up when Roosy visited Casey training sessions. The times he is running are closing in on AFL standard now.

I know some people that do a lot of work with him and they've got high hopes he'll be a rookie shot by seasons end. Plan with Casey was for him to play half a season in Development footy and work into senior footy. But he has blown expectations out of the water with his training/intra performances and backed it up against Williamstown. I'm real keen to see how he goes against Port Melbourne in the seniors now.

Also mate, they brought him up from the Wodonga Raiders last season (he was there for a year, wanted a better shot at AFL, and Casey was the perfect fit). He hadn't played a whole lot since starring for the Swans Academy/Swans Reserves back in 2013/2014. He did a few good things at Wodonga while adjusting back into footy, they reckon if he can kick 20 goals in the seniors and show the ruthless defensive game up forward he'll be every chance at a rookie shot. I hope so!

The Casey Scorpions team looks better today in terms of both MFC and Casey personnel but Port, like Williamstown, is a proud stand alone side with plenty of tradition in the oldest football competition. They have a number of seasoned, strong bodies to throw at the young Scorpions team and it will be a test at the windswept Casey Fields.

I was right about the wind. Port had that advantage in Q1 and lead 5.8.38 to Casey 1.1.7.

HT Port lead 6.9.45 to 5.1.31.
