2015 Player Review - # 9 Jack Trengove

Featured Replies

Didn't James Hird have a similar injury?

He seemed to play some terrific footy when he recovered.

I know he is not liked on here but gee he was a great footballer.

where on earth did you get that idea, bd?

You forgot " if his foot had passed the medical he would be at Richmond right now" and we would have Dangerfield

Fixed your quote for you.

I didn't forget it, old dee, it just had nothing whatsoever to do with my point, so I didn't say it.

My point Nasher was this time last year the majority of our FD thought he had little to offer us

Or they thought he offered more as part of a trade. That doesn't mean they thought he had little to offer us.

Depends on your view I guess.

Depends on your view I guess.

Given his trade was mooted as part of a larger trade that would have netted us Dangerfield I would hardly think they thought he was worth nothing. Pick 12 is better than a packet of twisties.

All fingers tightly crossed, firstly for Trenners the bloke, and second for Trenners the player!! At his pre-injury best, he was a very good footballer!

Zero expectations for him but really hoping he can get healthy.

2013 - Two wins, Mark Neeld, Terlich 3rd in the B&F, M. Jones 4th. Also, still on the list were Jordie McKenzie, David Rodan, Sam Blease, James Strauss, Josh Tynan, Daniel Nicholson, Tom Gillies, James Sellar, Michael Evans, Dom Barry, Luke Tapscott, Troy Davis, Rory Taggert, Rohan Bail. And Dean Terlich and Matt Jones.

Trenners will come back in to a very different team.

Given both Jack and Angus Brayshaw were both drafted as mids, were similar draft picks, are a similar height and both have shown leadership potential at a young age, I figured it may be interesting see how their first years compared

Jack - 2010

Games 18

Disposals 343, Ave 19 - 9 kicks, 10 handballs

Marks 63

Tackles 75

Clearances 44

Goals 8, Assists 3

Angus - 2015

Games 21

Disposals 267, Ave 13 - 8 kicks, 5 handballs

Marks 54

Tackles 99

Clearances 37

Goals 5, Assist 17

Given we rightly laud Brayshaw as a future 200 game player and hopefully one of those to help lead us out of mediocrity, it is good to remember just how good Trengove was.

It is bizarre to think that if Angus were to follow the same career path as Jack he would be captain of the club in about 18 months time.

My point Nasher was this time last year the majority of our FD thought he had little to offer us

I think it was more about the fact there was pick 12 on offer and there is and always will be significant risks with Trenners from here on out, I don't think there is too much doubt what he is capable of if it's all smooth sailing from here on out, but it's probably fairly unlikely.

I think if you add your ideas to OD's then you're about there (imho )

Whatever value Jack actually has/had was trumped by the value of pick 12 and what that might have delivered.

Trade dissolves and Jacks back to being a decent player,in the repair shop, with a '?' Over him.

At this stage, anything he can provide to our team is a bonus. The expectations are now so low.

On talent alone, he is a potential B+ midfielder. On character, deserves a successful comeback more than any player I remember

I don't factor Jack into any future plans at the MFC. If anything changes that, great.

If he hadn't failed the medical last year he was a Richmond Player who would have broken down over summer.

People keep talking of Trengove coming back next year "Good as Gold"

I just can't see him playing the modern game of Gut Running & Spread for 100 minutes....

On talent alone he is a potential A grader. Can accumulate, strong over head, kicks goals, good disposal.

Do I expect him to all be able to be an A grade? Probably not.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
