Josh Walker

Absolute steal and I think many clubs would be kicking themselves over a missed opportunity if that was the price.

Absolutely. At that price, I'd love to have Walker playing as a FF/2nd ruck, and Hogan as CHF. Think he could be a legitimate goalkicker as opposed to Dawes and Pedersen.

Suggests to me that Geelong thought they were worthless.

Or they needed to get rid of depth players to pay other, more expensive recruits...

I would say it is both.

I don't think Walker offers more than what we can get out of Dawes/Pedersen/best FF in NEAFL/VFL/SANFL/WAFL.

I know a Josh walker thread is not a place for a deep football evolution discussion, but if Hawthorn are THE model then the resting FF/Ruck would be an actual Ruckman and the Dawes/Pederson sized player would be retired in favor of a Gunston style player. Hogan is still our Roughhead, an agile moving powerful forward but I think our forward line would need to find a more versatile athletic and accurate kicking CHF and focus on drafting great midfielders and composed skilfull defenders.

There's good reason it was that price.

They'll only get a year out of him, surely he's mid 30's.

Getting Walker would have excited me as much as Tom Gilles.

Hey? He's 22...

Awful player though.

Bingo. If they are happy to package 2 players together for a third round pick then it gives you a good idea of how they rate them.

Walker needs to be the 2nd or 3rd tall. He will be terrible as the Lions #1 forward

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
