A small forward capable of kicking goals. This kid has represented Casey on a few occasions and played well each time - I think they won every time he played.

Kicked five (out of 7) for Gippsland Power today in a team that was well beaten.

I don't think he played for Vic Country in the championships but I think he would be well worth a rookie spot.

Got good pedigree as well. Grandson of former South Melbourne player Max Papley who would have been a swans team of the century member had he not missed out on minimum games requirement.

Not saying we would have got Papley, but that is why a number of us, including me, were so keen to delist Terlich and even M. Jones, to get another couple of youngsters.

Maybe we would have taken Wagner, on the main list and maybe Papley as our first rookie, but who knows.

I just think it is a fail for our list to have kept them. Both will finish the year playing for Casey.

Yeah im still shaking my head why we kept Terlich on after he didn't even remotely get close to a senior selection.

Signing him to a 2 year deal was just as horrific.

Yeah, it's a tough one. With our inability to attract players to improve our team, Roos and co have been reliant on the draft for strengthening areas such as the midfield and at the end of the day, we only have so many picks. Our lack of leg speed off half back as been evident for a couple of seasons now, so I guess they decided to back in Kent and to a lesser extent Harmes as our 'small' forwards and looked to address run and carry off half back. 

If Papley comes good and Kent continues to struggle and Harmes fails to cement a spot in the best 22, we'll definitely be ruing what could have been. And even then, I'd be targeting another small, zippy forward at the end of this season too. Hopefully, the sort that can eventually play in the midfield.

There's no greater pleasure than being proven wrong on players you want to get rid of as duds that prove you wrong. I was screaming at the end of last year to get rid of Jones. Couldn't believe he'd been given the contract extension and we were stuck with him. So far this year, I've been very happily proven very wrong. May that continue for the rest of the season. He's always had a big ready made body, height and run. Just shocking decision making and disposals. Some how or other over the NAB and first couple of rounds he's showing that the coaches have gone a long way to improving his decision making and disposal. In his case probably the same thing. 

Agree with you on Terlich. Papley was apparently the last player taken on their list and for very little money as they had minimal left in their cap. Oh well. Given he was one of the last players drafted by any club in all drafts, 17 others got this one wrong.

I am friends of his family and have watched him since under 13's.

Both his first cousins played a few games of AFL so Max Papley's grandkids are all quite talented.

Tom was always the talent of the family but up until five minutes ago was 4'3" tall - I thought he would never grow tall enough to play AFL but he has graduated from a very very teeny tiny small forward to a very talented small forward,

One of the commentators at the Swans game quoted Bob Skilton, who said that Max was the most naturally talented player he ever saw (or was it played with?) Looks like a few of the right genes got passed along.

interestingly  - it actually skipped a generation - the parents of the three boys (Max's kids) who are my vintage have always been sporty  - but not exceptional. The three boys (Grandkids) who all played for Bunyip ripped it up from the minute they first picked up a footy.

Looks like we missed one. But he's small and not overly fast compared to most AFL smalls, hard to make it with that physical profile so he'd have to be very good, which he looks so far. I'd like to see Sydney lose a game to see if he gets near it! Small forwards usually do well when you're winning, the best back it up when their side are down. Although he looks to have that top quality level of footy smarts that separates good players without the best attributes from the rest. 

This is cynical but I get the feeling Sydney took him partly to soften the blow of getting knock backed by Josh Dunkley. They seem to get a lot of luck like that, but I guess it's about making the most of it.
