Who was it that said Plowman wasn't a fan of Todd Viney?

Funny, because I recall TV waxing lyrical about LP at a club function leading up to the draft.

It's not like we overlooked him - we didn't get the option to take him.

I'd be happy with a Bugg/Plowman/Tomlinson combo for an early pick.

On Josh Kennedy, he is a very very good player, and I am all for bringing in good players, but for me he seems the wrong sort of player for us. He has good acceleration and gut running, but does not have great disposal and I would like to think that our inside mids in viney, jones, tyson, brayshaw etc could hold their own against the best in the comp.

If we are going to part with a top pick/picks in order to get players of this standard, then I would rather target players who offer something a bit different, whether it is x factor like bennel, foot skills like hartlett, or end to end running like a brad hill or an isaac smith (Unobtainable but you get the idea).

The players I have mentioned are outside players that add polish to the grunt work of the inside mids. If you look at teams like hawthorn or geelong or freo, they have the inside grunt, which we have also, but they then have the players that can use the ball and make the most of the clearance rather than just bombing it long, for example, hodge, burgoyne, bartel, mundy, etc. In my opinion these are the players we need rather than the big bodied inside mids.

However it is all well and good identifying a need, finding players that are willing to make the move, and that are available is tough, so I will back in the new team at the club

funny thing is...there sorta are wall-hammers !!

They should be called jack vineys ...:)

Kennedy is EXACTLY the sot of player we want. I reckon just about the most underrated player in the AFL and in my view is in the top 3-4 mids in the league. Perhaps lacks a little speed but more than makes up for it with his attack on the ball and ability to rack up huge contested and uncontested numbers. A warrior who perfectly fits the Roos ideal

JPK is obviously a star, but he's no spring chicken....

If recruiters are absolutely confident he can go the distance past 30 then it would be a yes, but this rumour was circulating last year too.

Sydney have, potentially, done everyone else in the league a favour. If Buddy continues to be a flop and it hurts the Swans financially through their salary cap then there are 17 other clubs who won't make the same mistakes they have.

16...the doggies may have already made that mistake

I do understand this line of thinking. But the other side of the coin is if we bring in someone like Kennedy we MAY be able to sneak into finals next season. This would then create a snowball effect. We suddenly become an attractive option for players coming back to Victoria, plus we can top of with free agents who want to have a crack at a flag.

I think it's more than just what Kennedy can bring for the next few seasons.

As long as Roos is around the club, the Kennedy rumour will continue to be a popular one.

Would love him but am yet to see any indication that this might well happen. Which could in fact be a good sign.

Definitely. There are arguments for and against. For the reasons you've given among others, it would be a cautious yes from me.

You'd also have to weigh up the strength of KPPs at the pointy end of this year's draft, and our need to find Hogan a forward partner for the next decade or so.

Anyone seen Kieran Collins getting about?

He's the sort of player we want because he's better than currently 90% of our list.

It's a bit rich for some posters to put the knocks on a bloke who's a 2-time AA and Swans B&F because he's a tad slow or his disposal is shoddy on his left or whatever.

90%? He would be our best player by a fair margin.

Where is all this Kennedy talk coming from? Have I missed something? Are we now just saying superstars at random and what each of them would add to the MFC?

Pretty much.

Kennedy long term pickup as player and thereafter. Impeccable pedigree. Definitely good player. Undoubtedly good person.

I reckon we have role players that can partner with Hogan for the next two to three years. I've always felt that we'd get a FA KPF to partner him. It'd mean we're a more desirable club at that point. In two to three years, we will be. Keep targeting midfielders in the meantime. They'll be the ones that get us to finals.

Interesting. I voted for Josh Kennedy on the 'big fish' thread - this is more a pipe dream than reality though. Look at his game against Freo and tell me he's not worth two first round picks. 28 or not the guy is one of the best going around; whether, its 3,4,5 or 6 years he has left in him - he is elite. Big bodied, good in the air, kicks goals and a clearance machine - I just can't see the Swans wanting to trade him regardless of the talent coming through.

If the kids play like Heeney they will my preference would be for someone around 26 but we need to follow the Kangas pattern FA is working a treat for them topping up with older talent is keeping thereabouts every season well we languish at the bottom.

Cracker of a gf too. Think she is some sort of Sth American model.

I wouldn't read too much into Norths season. If they played dogs/crows week 1 or Hawks week 2 everyone would be saying that free agency backfired on them. Tigers than Swans was a dream run.

Personally, I think the Roos are shooting themselves in the foot. It's very reminiscent of the last few years of Daniher's reign at Melbourne. They've got a bunch of blokes that are 27 and above, while there is a dearth of young talent on their list. They are going to crash and burn, IMO.

That said, for our needs and where our list is at, I'd be jumping at JPK.

Absolutely

There is not an up and coming young gun at North in the same Vein as Hogan Brayshaw Salem etc.. Infact all of their 2014 draftees were all hit with season ending injuries half way through the year.. not good indeed

I'll be quite happy seeing North down the bottom for a few years. Maybe we can get a few back on them. :P

Kennedy signed a four year deal with the Swans in 2013 where he stated that he would be forever grateful to the swans for the opportunity they gave him after the trade from the hawks and that he wanted to play for a successful club.

Im not thinking he is the big fish personally.
