Delistings/trades at end of the season

Recommended Posts

Forgot to mention Minchie…… good bye,Riley perhaps! Are we up to our usual 10-12 delistings now? Bennell and Dixon mentioned as replacements, many past dee players were f.cked in the head from Mark Neeld and co. and had to be let go.

Getting any GC players might be a mistake due to their ability to constantly lose and the drug scandal arisen from the scum bag K Michael-Hunt. Drug dealing AFL/Rugby players don't get anywhere the same penalty as those who take drugs.

Love your work ENYAW. As usual it is like a rare wine - to be savoured and considered in all its subtlety - not judged on an initial start of the palate response.

Mckenzie definite,Terlich possible( lightning may strike twice),Bail and Matt Jones could be safe due to their "back up value"……. experienced reserves. Fitzy or Spencer to go…. both are up and down. Jamar not safe.

Grimes definite,Trengove to stay,if he gets back to his best may make a useful defender.Forget the physicoligal ploy to [censored] him off last year.Toumpas possible may be replaced by HARMES or HUNT. Howe rumoured to go the way as Stef Martin,

Watts might go,just too soft for AFL footy,ROOSY loves him.Garland could be up for trade only as a slim chance.

Hold up...Spencer played a big part in the bulldogs and geelong wins. You are a bit off the mark there..lets say Gawn does his knee next week then who steps up to the ruck..??

It is about delisting AND trading... so while it's relevant it also doesn't mean it dictates what we can try to do in the off season

I get that, but when you continually see contracted names Terlich, M. Jones, Michie thrown around, just to name a few.... It's never to be traded, because as we all know, they have zero value.

Wouldn't be the greatest look for the club sacking three contracted players. I agree with pretty much everyone that they're not long term players for the club, but I currently assume they'll still be on the list next year.

I agree, in that too many mention those names above as potential delistings, yet they are still contracted for another year. Technically they can be traded IF there is a taker, which for those 3 I doubt there would be, but there is still that option. It does boggle the mind a little that Terlich and M. Jones got the contracts they did however.

Its probably the lack of posters knowledge of his is in and out if contract...

As far as i know Garland is a free agent at thw wnd of the year..correct me if i am wrong but..it would seem that most players who havent resingned by this time of the year tend to be moving clubs..i will be interested to see which clubs attract him...

Your right that does tend to be the way. Cloke ended up signing late and I think Dunn signed about mid year the other year if I'm correct. I hope he stays.

Edit: Re-worded.

Would Garland for Yarran improve our team at all...? carlton is a team that could use him..

I'm not sure of the contract status of most of our players, but the list changes end of year look to me like -

Retirements;

Mark Jamar

Delistings;

Rohan Bail

Aiden Riley

Viv Michie

Jordie Mckenzie

Dean Terlich

Question Marks;

Dean Kent

Matt Jones

Jack Fitzpatrick

The unfortunate fact for these guys is that you can cut this entire group without affecting our match-day performance.

Some still have a chance to prove themselves, and in what is rumoured to be a weak draft the club might persevere rather than start fresh with draftees.

A 5 or 6 player 'churn' is pretty appropriate for a club still looking to develop their list.

Kent, really?

I'd probably take Riley out of the delistings, at this stage anyway.

'Spence' has been improving steadily over 3 seasons. he's pretty resilient... gawn has played what, one, or two good games? Max.

I reckon it is a bit early to say, 'gawn' is the next big thing. he's barely pulled the skin off, a rice pudding to this point.

So true but our list looks so much more healthy with Gawn up and owning the no1 ruck pos.

its a positive that he has finally responded to some critique & shown he has some more in the tank. but just how much is in there when the chips down? Spence is a goer, & will go & go.

gawn is yet to show this, that he can go & go. week after week, after week, & thru the seasons. how hungry he is, his inner self is yet to witness.

Gawn's temporary new nickname: One or Two Good Games Max.

He's been dropped to the reserves in order to work on some deficiencies a handful of times. Like many young players.

Saying he hasn't been getting games is just a silly thing to say.

As for Yarran. He's proven that when he plays at his potential, he's an extremely damaging and great player.

I'm not really a fan 'steve', I don't see him as a great player but he can be damaging.

Not reliable enough for mine though.

If we were going for pace and I think we do need to look at it then I would look at Motlop.

Your patience must be through the roof for a player like Watts then...

Yarran has proven his ability and performed dominantly a number of times at the top level displaying elite level skills, pace and intensity.

Like Garlett last year, he's form is suffering from possibly a number of reasons.

Yarran possesses so much of what our list lacks. Speed and elite kicking.

I think you're being short-sighted with this one.

His kicking is one of the things that worries me, he's sometimes way too casual and misses targets.

Interesting you mention Watts, but I think Yarran is very outside and very much picks and chooses. As I say if we are making a play for pace I would rather us throw some cash at Motlop.

motlop has been mooted as one of the possible moves if crows do choose to 'match' the dangerfield contract (presuming it comes from the cats) and force geelong to the trade table.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
