They are going through the same crap we have endured for the last decade.

Cursed with a series of management decisions that were looking for the easy way to a premiership.

The management of both clubs has successfully produce playing list that cannot cut it in the AFL.

Both of us are destined now for a long period outside the top eight.

In the modern period it takes a long time to create a good list when you are stating from VFL standard.

I just hope we can beat them later this year.

I don't 'od', they have for decades stolen other clubs players, & paid via brown paper in one hand behind the back... the are the original footy white ants, & I have no sympathy for that club.

they are getting what they do deserve. of all the clubs, they are historically the filthiest off field.

I can see a lot of us circa 2011-2013 in the current Carlton.
Why did this even have to get out? Mick will have his innards taken out over the next few weeks and for what? It's clear that they have made up their mind. It will just be humiliating for him and make them an even less appealing proposition for a successor. Prospective applicants must cringe at what they are seeing as they no doubt will be thinking that if they can do this to the all time games coached record holder then why wouldn't they do it to me if things go pear shaped?
While Neeld getting sacked was a sad moment in so much in that it signified that we as a club had failed yet again, I couldn't fault how it was handled. No leaking beforehand. It was almost clinical in it's efficiency (despite the slight hiccup of the EGM where Neeld had to outline the direction the club was going). The kind of manner Carlton are handling Mick is one thing I am glad that is no longer prevalent at the MFC.

Watching Carlton at present is like watching the MFC between 2009 to early 2014.

Incompetent boards who are divided and cannot make a decision.

Poor GM changed to an equally incompetient / failed replacement from another club.

Poor recruiting

Tanking.

Failing to adapt to the modern era.

Making themselves irrelevant to the competition.

After the MFC created the manual on how to degrade a club and produce a VFL quality list

Carlton are adding a couple of extra chapters.

Happy to watch the blues sink into the quagmire.

But don't like their treatment of Malthouse.

I think Dermie said it well when he said: "they are p-ssing on a monument"

The CFC Board completely undermined their season when they announced a rebuild and all players were on the table.

Then surprise, surprise, they spiral thru lost confidence, mounting loses, no crowds, embarrassing friday night tv spotlight etc

I would like to seem him go out with dignity.

its like a mirror image of the same picture shot. but the problem isn't the coach, its the culture, & the rotten culture's resistance to change. thats just what happens at a rotten to the core club. the damage was being done over the past 15+ years, & it's showing itself now they are bare of talent.

development doesn't happen when the culture is Off. maybe that's the first sign of an issue being present, under the covers.... arrested development.

I watched the Elliot chapter of Open Mike, and it reminded me of how much I loathed the man. Apart from that I was interested how Mike (gently) drew a line between his conduct and the state Carlton is in now.

In so many ways I see how 'our game' is played and managed as representative of Australia and whether we chart our own way in the world or become a cheap copy of the 'seppos and everything that is wrong with their professional sports. Namely nearly everything I like about Australian culture is summed up in our sport and if it becomes a totally business model we will become poorer for it - I always though Elliot would have been happy for us to become extinct. Elliot's attitude was bad for the game (obviously as a MFC hater) and the need for a fair comp. I think Carlton's current troubles are a good thing, they will finally be able to get rid of a poor culture and become a good club again.

ah yes, but they were already planning last year; getting Silvagni to come back to the blues is signal they were already planning to rebuild. they could finally see things weren't working last year.

so the question then becomes, was the public quoting of "a rebuild", by some quarters, ceo?, board??? designed to undermine MnM & the blues ladder position, in order to get the best draft kids early.

they want a scapegoat, & are they really trying to [censored] on a monument; interestingly the timing was aimed to be just around the time MnM was to pass the coaches games record whilst at the Blues, stealing it from the Pies,,, by accident the timing???

I suspect the blues have planned this since last year.

He is a very ordinary bloke, And personally I think he is an ordinary coach. Coached a WA state side to two flags in 92 and 94, Was at the Pies for 12yrs before getting lucky in a very open year.

Just think if he hadn't have won that flag he would have coached for 20 yrs without a flag. And you wouldn't be calling him an ornament of the game. I think he is a first class [censored].

yep, I think the issue was rising when he had issues with Yarran the other year, & last year MnM's 'after-game interviews' weren't a good look, for the Blues, Mick himself, or the AFL.

many at the Blues weren't happy with mick early last year, & imo, MnM was trying to lay down the law 'for disciplines sake', in a lawless terrain... that goes down like 'chewie' in your hair.

the lawless terrain has been going on I suspect for quite some years, pre judster, & most likely rattled right along.

I hope Hendo gets out now, or he will spend the next 5 years in a rebuilding team, outside the finals.

I don't think its so much the talent but the culture regime they developed under.... try to unwind the rope, you may as well just burn it & start again.

we are now improving because of new off field leadership & the clearing of the old list. now the new kids are learning with the correct attitudes. this cleaning started mostly through Neeldy. some went before, but not too many. the old, took their old ways with them.

First they decided that Ratten was under-performing and that they needed a better coach to take the team deep into finals. Then they discover that the team was actually doing better than it had any right to, and now they want to sack Mick for not being able to magically conjure success.

How long exactly did it take for the Pies to win a flag under Mick? 10 years was it? He took a declining list, made hard decisions and rebuilt the squad until they were a consistent threat and eventually won. That's his game. If they didn't want to back him in long term they should never have hired him. Right now they need to accept that their list is shot and back him to start over. Give him a long-term extension and license to trade off their under-performing high picks while they still hold some value. With some astute trading they could see some serious improvement in five or six years.

I don't think that Malthouse doesn't 'have it anymore'. I think he has lost the players, because maybe he believed the list was better then it turned out to be, & the players now doubt it themselves to.

this is reason for many divorces, when dreams are shattered.

so they need a fresh start with a new coach, & new goals. Instead of dreaming of finals footy, they on a long haul rebuild. This requires a fresh start, with fresh coach, & new kids, & new mature players, to bring in a fresh attitude & maturity.

Mick is too old to start a rebuild from the start. he is a finisher coach nowdays.

funny, now's the time they need a 'Ratten', to build the list over 5 - 6 years.

if woosher Worsfold takes this rabble, he will regret it. its the wrong time for him. they'll take 3 years to clear out the rotten culture, before real growth happens.

Listened to him in the radio this morning. Mick is amazing at taking no responsibility at all for where a club is at. He is good at throwing others under the bus them saying I can't comment on their behalf.

He got Trigg, the president and the entire board this morning. Going to miss you Mick.
