who is currently the highest paid player and what does he get? anyone?

Jones.  My guess is an average of $750k p.a. annual amount over/under that according to front or back end loading.

Lots of things would make his total contract.  My guess contract is front loaded to leave salary cap for young talent as Jones gets to end of his contract in 2019

 Probably Dawes :S I'd say $650-$700k.

I thought it was stated that Dawes signed on about $500k per year.

That will be the extra $500k they need per year, to get Jesse signed.

A bit of man love fun between Hoges and Harmesy.

Seriously though it does appear they are pretty tight mates. I think it was Harmes first goal last season that Jesse was super pleased and really got around him.

not a single person said it at the time though

'oh these skinny non-competitors are going to get us nowhere'

I know I am being blatantly negative but it is it that hard to look 5 years down the track and see people lamenting 'all these tough competitors with no skills or brains' or whatever

point is that hindsight is crazy accurate, presentsight not so much

I'm more in the camp that we had shyzen d'ment rather than bad drafting. All of the blokes in that picture would have gone very close to the picks we took them at, and at other clubs probably would have all been decent players.

My McLean and Sylvia post to my mind highlights what you say - it was never about too skinny or afl ready bodies..

I remember the conversation around these two at the time - we need "grunt", more "afl ready" footballers - look how that turned out. I am not sure that all the players in the picture would have turned out good players. But seriously, the odds that none of them have reached dizzying heights is not all due to wrong picks. I am absolutely in the development camp and compounding the problem of putting young talent into our cesspool of club ( as it was then).

Geez we dodged a bullet in not being able to retain Scully on a massive contract.

Think we offered him $700k or so for a long time, yet he still walked.

And we got Jesse as a result.

To anybody who thinks we will eventually lose Jesse back to WA, he really likes Melbourne, didn't think much of Perth growing up, has settled well into the Melbourne lifestyle, especially the live music and coffee culture...has established really good friendships with JKH, James Harmes and Petracca....has total respect for one Nathan Jones and wants to give him the success he craves.........and wants to payback the club for the way they have looked after him during his back issues...don't think the money would be an issue with him....just got the feeling back in my arm after shaking hands with him and wishing him Happy Birthday on Friday

Did you offer him a pen so he can sign his new contract?

Enjoy that you can provide info from the mouths of some of our players.

But when you say something like 'he didn't think much of Perth growing up' I'm not sure who's words they are..

There are countless interviews in which he makes it no mystery to anyone how he feels about Perth/his home. He loves it.

That's not to say he dislikes Melbourne. But you're certainly painting a different picture by saying what you have.

Not that brave, we will just have to wait and see as with all top players these days

He loves Perth, coz his family is there, he actually finds the environment compared to Melbourne boring, (from quite a few sources), I know for a fact he is a big fan of the coffee culture here, live in same area and know which ones he likes to frequent

Which I find a little amusing to be honest.

When did he leave Perth? He was a 17 year old and has spent the last 3 to 4 years in Melbourne.

Sure he's had opportunities to experience Perth as an adult but not in the same way as Melbourne.

Perth has heaps to do and a much nicer climate to do it in.

Jesse no doubt still loves being back at home. You only have to look at his instagram account during his time off that he does enjoy the company of his mates socializing. I still thinl one day eventually he will return home.

Perth is really much better place then Melbourne personally. Great surfing beaches which is Hogan's number 1 hobby.

It is all anecdotal, so who knows the correct answer, still think he will be here for a good few years, don't think the pull is strong

Hey McQueen, if you ever have a chance to speak to him, there's no need to bring any of this up. Focus on Perth's bad features if you feel the need to talk about the place.

He might, but not as a footballer.

Two four hour flights every second weekend for a big bloke with a back to manage is hardly conducive to a football career.  Especially when you didn't debut until you were 20.

I'm a born and raised Victorian but love it over here. That said I still feel the pull of home every so often.

Jesse is a competitor and wants a flag. In the grand scheme of things I truly believe we have a better core of youngsters to help him achieve that compared to Freo. I reckon they'll really slide this year.

Actually when they are off duty, I leave them alone apart from saying hello, was sitting in one of the locals cafes and so was Jesse and a guy (obviously a Demon supporter) kept peering over the top of his newspaper at him, was like watching a poor 50's spy film, myself and my lady thought it was hilarious not sure Jesse thought that though

Had the shyte kicked out of me in Northbridge about 20 years ago. The nightlife scene is a difficult one to enjoy thanks to the violence over here. There's much nicer places to go to nowadays that are very family friendly.

Let's see how Freo go.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
