Bruce I'm afraid is not delicious. His rhetorical questions give me the runs.

Bruce starts reeling off stats in the middle of a piece of play...

Shut your hole Bruce....i want to hear the crowd noise building

Mcavaney should stick to calling athletics

Football is not his caper...sadly i can never work out why he was always given the number one seat...

Ritchie Benaud was the greatest...He knew EXACTLY when to speak and when to shut it.

without fail

I find Dermie's special comments about player movements and structures interesting.

As someone who never played footy beyond primary school, I like these sorts of strategic comments. It enhances my enjoyment of the game when I understand more deeply why things do or don't work.

Having said that, his ego is pretty huge which is hard to listen to at times.

The question is 'are they right', I know they sound convincing but.... Dermie tends to like the sound of his own voice.

The turkeys rattling on about anything and everything other than what's happening on the ground drives me around the bend. Just wish they'd quit big-noting themselves, and actually give a commentary on the game. Would be a nice change!!

I can never understand why TV commentary is so voluminous. Radio commentary is an entirely different matter. However TV is a visual medium in which the picture tells us the story. As Richie realized the fewer words the better.

Bruce has become a bore and a distraction with his endless statistics. His tennis commentary is the same although his athletics commentary is good. Soccer commentators on the whole have learnt this lesson particularly if you watch European games. Yet commentators here run off at the mouth describing every detail of the action and then special comments guys bore us to bits with their opinions and micro analysis of plays etc. There is no silence. Its a bit like being at the ground itself, where we are bombarded with noise, ground commentary and advertisements. Don't start me on the new electronic signs around the fence and grandstands which are constantly flashing messages and lurid colours. Such a distraction to the eye and headache inducing material. The game experience does not need to be hyped up. In terms of the TV commentary, the standard is low. The commentary team engage in on-going matey banter including personal jokes and asides at one another a little like the Channel 9 cricket commentary. The football public deserves better than what is dished up. Best not watched or sound turned down.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
