POST MATCH DISCUSSION - ROUND 3

""That's not toughness, if you want toughness watch what David did today.

"That's why I think our team won the game in the end because we had guys who were prepared to do that."

Whatever mate, pretty sure you won because Melbourne didn't bring their kicking boots. Not to mention some dodgy hometown umpiring.

He should be more gracious in victory.

They are actually pretty pissweak comments.

You won because you were a more mature and composed side.

This

Jamar offers very little besides his ruck work, and even his value there is questionable. Time to give Max Gawn or Spencer another crack I think.

Spence was emergency, could be in next week, with frost's ankle in the ice?

Right. Paul Roos could equally say we lost simply because we didn't convert our opportunities. To talk about one team's "hardness" being the reason they won is pretty disingenuous in a hard-fought game in the wet.

And to say that Bernie Vince's treatment of Patrick Dangerfield would have resulted in Vince "going off in a stretcher" in the "bad old days" is basically saying "tough footy would be met with assault if it were up to me." Flogga!

And also, I am a big fan of Dangerfield, but I am getting sick of the throw the head back playing for a free kick manoeuvre.

Both need to be addressed if they continue to be an issue. I would not after 3 games change the way a key forward has kicked for most of his life. Its a watch point nothing more.

Red if you think Hogan's set shot action is ok and can be addressed later you should be following Hawthorn. They can wait, we need goals, now.

Staggering to see people put Watts and Dawes in the same category today. Get passed the contract Dawes is supposedly on. He was no where near our worst today. Watts was terrible and bereft of confidence and effort. JKH, Kent, Newton and VanB all went missing for long periods.

Mistakes still hurt us so much. Hogan and Jeff must learn to capitalise and the absolute clanger kicks and loopy hand passes in the backline are so frustrating.

Hogan still has so much upside though, and Brayshaw is going to be a pleasure to watch in the coming 10+ years. The way he dragged Jones away from the 3 quarter time fraca once it had passed its usefullness was wonderful level headed leadership, from a third gamer.

Wattsy won't get confidence, if he keeps avoiding contests & contact, as he does. he needs to go in where angels fear; to find out the truth, for his sake, & for the teams, & ours as well.

It aint that hard to go in, you either come out well, or embarrassed, but you do come out.

but if you refuse to go in, you will Never Ever know. & you mark your own papers imo.

Who needs Chip when we have TMc.

He is a gun defender!

Just watched Vince's after match interview. I love the way he goes about it and his commitment. Hopefully it rubs off on a lot of the younger boys moving forward.

where?

So Where are all the Dawes supporters from last week. SHOULD HAVE BEEN DROPPED AS MANY ON HERE SUGGESTED. HE IS A LIABILITY AND HE IS OVER PAID

COOO - EEEE is any body listening? Trade Jackie boy to a basketball side pleassssssseeeee>

Jackie boy unfortunately is not a footballer

Poor kicking by both Hogan and Garlett. Hogan's stuttering run up has to be sorted out. It is all over the place. He is very good in all other aspects of the game and will only get better.

Loved the game Vince played and Tmac is a beauty.

Brayshaw is excellent fo a 3 gamer and I would like to see him given a start next week.

If Frost does not come up bring in Pedo. Would like to see Watts dropped. His efforts and bricks for hands attempts at marking need to be punished. Get him out of the limelight a bit and give him a run at Casey for a couple.

Players need to take the first option the way they seemed to do in the first quarter. After that they looked to be overthinking it, taking a step too far and not talking.

Finally, the umps were bad all day and we were on the rough end of the stick. How can Kent be punished for jumping over the top for a mark and Danger not be for doing the same thing with less of an attempt to mark?

[censored] Dawes off and bring in Pedo now!

Watts was not the difference but did allow the crows some momentum... Bottom line the gap between his worst & best is too big

So Hoges you still a supporter of Jackie Boy?

I didn't think Dawes was too bad today, quite often he was against two and at times three and not once was out marked.

Yes he needed to do a little more, but I thought he was far from our worst.

A little more ? What are you using? Did you watch his idiot? No woder Pied got rid of him another pretender

Agree on the Dawes issue.

His job is to attract a crowd and bring it to ground. Also to take the 2nd backman.

does this consistantly and earns his bit.

Please tell me why he is always out numbered and if he is why do we kick it to him if he is? It is cringeworthy to watch.

I have been a big supporter of Watts in the past. Elite disposal, accurate goal kicking, creative choice of targets.... but now it seems all that is gone, and all we have is a big marshmallow.

OUT: Watts

IN: Pedo

Don't get why each week people call for 4-5 change. Roos has never been one to make hostile changes... Wouldn't be suprised if it's Frost out injured for either a tall in Pedersen or they go for another runner in michie/grimes

Hopefully a player will put their hand up by having an awesome game for Casey tomorrow.

Be nice to see a meritocracy restored at the MFC...

On the sauce tonight mate?

On the sauce tonight mate?

No Rams dont actually drink but I understand some here take substance abuse seriously

That Jamar body kick was pretty epic!

Just watching North vs port and wow Goldstein is exactly what a ruckman should be. His follow up tackles and lots of possessions etc.. Unfortunantly jamar is the best tap ruckman we have and the others don't get enough of it around the ground to justify their inclusion :(.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
