When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?

Featured Replies

Now for the second most important embarrassing record of them all... smashing those pretenders North Melbourne. I live for the day we beat them. They don't even deserve the name Melbourne in their title!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...

First win vs Eagles in 8 years

First time that we've won 4 in a row in 11 years

First win in Perth in 13 years

First win vs Eagles in Perth in 15 years

Haven't won 4 in a row since 2006.

I'd love to see a breakdown of our back to back victory records. First three in a row last year. Then again this year against Dogs. 4 in a row first time in 11 years. What's the 5,6,7 etc...

Anyone know a stats page you can customise for that?

I know we won seven in a row at the back of 2000 up until the grand final, with the preceding loss the one-pointer vs. North.

Edit: Just had a look - would have been 11 straight otherwise. And worth noting we were 6-7 prior to that run. 98' was seven-in-a-row at the back end up to the prelim also (with some ridiculous average winning margin).

Edit #2: Thought I'd finish the job. Six in the middle of 2006 (which accounts for our last five as well). Can't imagine there's been an eight in my lifetime.

Can we have both? And may as well put the 'can we have both' taco one in as well.

When was the last time we won a game without nathan jones?

The take-home message - we're ahead of where we were at at the same stage in 1998 & 2000. My favourite seasons. Started our run a little earlier this year though - but not too early a la our fizzle-outs in the mid-naughties.

We're also +3 in the W-L record for the first time since 2006.

We won 6 in a row in 2006.

We won 7 in a row in 2000 (and 1998) if you include the two finals wins.

Otherwise, we last won 7 home and away games in a row in 1990 (ended up 8 in a row with the first final win).

I've just looked through this.

Jones debuted in Round 17, 2006.

He's missed 6 games since then, including last night. We'd lost them all until last night.

That means until last night we hadn't won a game without Nathan Jones playing since before he debuted (which was Round 15, 2006 (we beat Richmond on a Friday night).

2002 was my favourite. Was out of footy for a while, fell in love again watching Neitz win the Coleman.

Dating ourselves here Sku.

Probably more of a stat than a record that needed to be broken, but apparently the win vs WC is the first time we have won a game without Jones in the side since he made his debut (2006)

In fairness, we didn't win a game without Jim Stynes in the side from Round 18, 1987 – Round 5, 1998.

For the last decade or so we've been more bad than good, but, it seems to me, particularly in June. I'd like to see us go through June undefeated. The last time that happened was 2006. We still have to beat West Coast and (because of the 6 day break) Sydney on 30 June.

Perhaps it's more a challenge than an "embarrassing record" per se, but to go through June 4-0 (plus the bye) would see that particular challenge knocked off the list.

One more to go.

Not surprising when you look at how few games he's missed in that time, and how awful a football team we were.

We haven't beaten North in an away game on a Saturday since 1991. That day Jako kicked 11.8. I doubt half of the people on this forum were born back then.
