I am surprised that when Melbourne released Clark from his contract they did not include a 'competitor clause' . Standard in most employment contracts. I know that things would be different in AFL and under the AFLPA"s Agreement, but given the fact that release was a separate contract to the employment contract I think the MFC could have protected itself by restricting Clark from un-retiring and moving to a rival club

I would just like to ask, take away the depression and Clark had continued to play for us, but we still didn't improve, so he decided not to re sign a new contract and moved to Geelong and kicked six goals in a NAB game, that would be ok?

No, not after he was willing to come to us for large chunks of money.

It's not OK to walk out of 2 clubs because you're just always chasing the next best thing.

I think every MFC supporter who has been on board for the last 50 years is not quite the full dollar dc.

or in our case OD - not the full pounds shillings and pence.

To me the problem is that he didn't play for us in his first contract - he played 15 games ?

I don't like that Rivers left but no hard feeelings - he played plenty of games - many good a few stinkers - players come players go

I don't like the Frawley left but no meh - he played plenty of games - many good - many not so good - players come players go.

In answer to Saty's question - if he came and played a full three years and then left for success - I would consider him mercenary. I believe you have to put in a bit of time into a club you transferred to before you earn that right

Mate.....Please.....This isn't a p1ssing contest.....I have been a jrn and senior member for the past 50 years......I bought memberships even though I couldn't get to games because I was playing or in later years working

I am an MCC member so don't have to be a member of the footy club but still buy a full membership

I cried as a lad when Barassi left

So how about you get off your soapbox and get off the angry pills......You'll feel much better.

yeah just take it easy man

lose elite players

lose games

don't win flags

possibly die out as a club

anybody want Dom Tyson and Jesse Hogan?

we're giving them away cos we're the carefree Dees

it's all cool man

i'm just super easy going about it all

What facts, would you like to state them, here they are...........he has/had depression, he retired, he came out of retirement, he joined Geelong, we were compensated

Not willing to debate my hypothetical re Hogan?

He gamed the system. No one should be able to do what he did. If you retire you should be made to stand out of footy - whatever the reason. We got shafted by Darren Jarman because he refused to come to Mlebourne despite us drafting him. He stood out of footy for a year. The Dess scrambled to do a deal on Mitch so as to get something from eth debacle but there is no doubt Mitch gamed the system to get to the club of his choice.

You are also conveniently ignoring his rhetoric through this - I love the club,, love the fans, I'm heartbroken blah blah blah...then he farks us. All his words are hollow and no wonder ppl here are peeved by it.

One in 64.........Make you feel better.....I was 13....Can't remember it all that well

you're in the same boat as my old man

that would be the S.S. Loser

the fact you sat through the last 50 years of failure and still hang in is commendable

the fact you don't seem to really give a stuff is not

Till you were 13 you were present for 6 flags.

I was present for 4 spoons.

I'm sure life in the schoolyard was very different for you and I.

Yes I'm bitter and twisted about it.

What puzzles and annoys me most here is how quickly medical opinion can change when the condition of DEPRESSION is mentioned and also how slow Melbourne was in seeing this coming.

When you go to a GP and tell them you might have depression, they ask you to fill out a questionnaire. It has a whopping 10 multi-choice questions on it. One of the questions is 'how often do you feel depressed' (I [censored] you not). So you take 3 seconds to answer the survey and guess what? you are diagnosed. It is a joke. It is about as scientific as a cave painting - and obviously it can very easily be manipulated to suit one's needs

Whichever view of the whole MC saga you take, I cannot forgive him for not apologising to the MFC more profusely in public after all the support we gave him. All I recall is that he said he felt guilty - maybe I missed a detailed statement from him? - in which case I retract. For a man to bravely admit to depression in public, why the silence? Did he feel so guilty that he just wanted to hide?

good point

he pretty much ignored the fanbase completely didn't he

Sorry Curry, this is a massive generalization that creates a false impression. If this is what your GP does , then change your GP. The diagnosis of depression will be determined by the GP taking a case history (unless you are already well known to the GP, asking relevant questions, and in some cases using a questionnaire. In the latter case, the questionnaire is used as an additional tool not as the determining and sole means to diagnose the condition. In cases of doubt, the GP will refer to a specialist (psychiatrist) for a psychiatric assessment. This is what a capable and experienced GP will do.

A guy who I supervised at work was to funny business. I had no hard evidence though pretty sure of what he was up to. I made life hell for him for a while, bluffed him, then made a deal. Use up your sick leave and then retire and I won't take the matter further. Every month he sent in a sick certificate. This went on for about 14 months until he used up all his sick leave then retired. Plenty of doctors around who will liberally give out medical certificates, no questions asked. Almost impossible to prove any wrong doing with the practice.

close, but no cigar

jarman actually stood down for 4 years, 3 years due to melb, then 1 year due to brisbane (he could still play in the sanfl)

Jarman was initially drafted by Melbourne with pick 55 in the inaugural 1986 VFL Draft.,[2] but chose to remain in Adelaide with the Roosters. Once the Demons' three-year rights to Jarman lapsed, Brisbane claimed him with a concessional pre-draft selection in the 1989 VFL Draft.[3] Once again Jarman chose to stay in his home state.

In 1990 the turmoil that led to the creation of the Adelaide Crows and thereby automatically relegated the SANFL to secondary importance within South Australia caused Jarman to reassess his career. Following some friction with the Crows' football manager Neil Kerley, Jarman chose to head east, signing for Hawthorn after the club traded pick 10 in the 1990 AFL Draft to the Bears for his contractual rights.[4]

the difference between you and most of us is that you love the players more than you do the club. The club goes first. If anybody pulls a shifty on this club they go on my sh1tlist forever. Clark's shifty is one of the biggest in the history of the AFL and I really mean that. The idea that anyone could apologise for him is staggering to me. Have you stopped for a second to think how incredibly handy it would be to have a key forward of Coleman medal ability on our list right now? That could be worth who knows, 5 or 6 wins? Maybe more? What about having somebody for Hogan to come up alongside with? What's that worth? Given our precarious state of existence and urgent need to improve, this is a HUGE thing we have missed out on - if Clark had done the obvious, decent thing to do and rejoined us we would be deadset contenders for the finals and that is something all of us very much deserve after a decade of putting up with utter garbage - and we have missed out on not by bad luck but by the selfless actions of a despicable individual who has betrayed us all. It makes my blood boil every time I think about it.

Spot on Curry.....Watching Clark last night was a chance at playing finals and being near the bottom

But i am so so happy that Mitch is well paid and smiling....we can all wait another 50 years....because we are the nice club

Fcuk that It is time this club stood up and returned some fire...

Anyone hear the Ox this afternoon on radio?

I was GUTTED to Schwarta....made me feel really angry and short changed last night.

It is so nice that Geelong are still in contention for more flags.....

Oh please, some of the posters are the same from the Garlett topic, "not me your honour, never done a thing like that in my life", the hypocrisy kills me

Me, lots of times I have said something somebody wanted to hear so I could get something I wanted

Give me written proof that he 'gamed' the system and I will accept it

That is just ridiculous, but I assume you have been through it during quite a few seasons

And what type of depression are we talking about?...What you mean you don't know there are different types

No, not after he was willing to come to us for large chunks of money.

Yep I'm sure he detailed it all in his medical records. I'll have it for you in a jif.

Would you like his signature on it?

There are none so blind as those that will not see....

See what, for something to be a fact, it has to be ;proven, WJ could help us out there

Some say Demonland is the home of balanced discussion where facts are the first point of reference in any discussion

I have yet to see proof of that

It is Ned Flanders FCS.... A mate of mine committed suicide because of deep depression last month..Hung himself in a bedroom cupboard so he wouldn't leave a mess.

That is the Black Dog depression...The dark one.

You do not come good from that darkness in 6 months....You manage it if you are lucky.

There is no way Clark was in that bad place...within days of retiring he was taking photos of beautiful girls and posting them all over social media.

He may have been feeling down, sure...BUT he also could have stuck around and helped his mates...The mates who invited him to their weddings etc

Clark wants quick success and or big $$$ and so far he has succeeded...Meanwhile we are still in 17th place 50 years on.....

It actually is his right provided he sees out his current contract, but it is not what happened- he did not decide not to re-sign, he broke his contract.

Saty: please base your argument on scenarios that are relevant to what is being discussed. The fact that Clark did not see his contract out (and the manner in which he achieved this) is what has got folks here so angry, not the fact that he left the club.

I could care less.

Sure the departure was lousy and considerably dodgy, but at the end of the day he didn't want to be here and that's as good enough of a reason as any for someone to move on. I certainly don't want anyone on the list who isn't willing to give it their all for this club.

The past is the past- the present and future is far more interesting.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
