If all our players were delisted by another club...

Money aside, who on our list wouldn't you pick up if they were delisted by another team?

I don't get the question.

Who I wouldn't pick up.

Grimes - because his brain to foot just isn't cut out for AFL.

Matt Jones - his errors outweigh his effective efforts.

Jamar - too short to ruck, no where else to put him.

Gawn - unproven and unlikely to make it, I wouldn't take the risk if I was picking a side.

Harmes - too light on.

Hunt - see above.

Tom McDonald - only pick on a base wage, too many basic skills errors.

Jordy McKenzie - sloppy inside game, limited skill set, 3 touch player.

Jack Watts - lacks intensity, lacks aggression, not competitive.

Jack Trengove - lacks sufficient aggression to play AFL football. Unlikely to make it.

Previous candidates..

James Strauss - zero awareness.

James Frawley - very poor awareness, bad execution, poor decision making.

Luke Tapscott - no inside game, slow on the outside, cannot harness aggression, needs work on spatial awareness and needs to use aggression intelligently - doesn't work (lacks intensity).

Lucas Cook - Lacks aggression, competitiveness, intensity, determination, strength. Could continue, too many negatives, too few positives.

Jordan Gysberts - poor preparation, mentally not capable to play AFL football.

With the records they have right now? I'd take N. Jones, Tyson, Dunn, Tommy and Vince. That's about it. Of the others there are a number with AFL experience who are either too old or just not quite right and there are a bunch with little or no experience on which to judge.

Jack Watts sublime skills alone not enough for you? They don't all have to be bashers/tough guys. I respect your thoughts though mate.

Surely you can't be serious that Trengove (with his famous sling tackle) is too soft! I would only pass on him for the reason that Richmond did last year (i.e. Injury)!

I'm all for critiquing players but this thread just seems overtly negative.

I don't get the question.

It's a circumlocutory way of asking who you'd delist I suppose.

I'm all for critiquing players but this thread just seems overtly negative.

And for exactly this reason, i.e. it's a negative attempting to disguise itself as a positive ('recruiting choices' replacing delisting ones).

They're what Don Watson calls weasel words (as are mine since I've substituted 'negative' for what should probably just be 'nastiness').

Do we really need another thread were we can argue about which players are hopeless (which appears to be the garbled intention of the thread title)?

Alternatively, maybe confine all such discussions to here. (Good luck with that.)

So negative

Trengove, watts, grimes, gawn, McDonald

All would get picked up.

I reckon the general drift of comments and likes here is starting to be persuasive. We don't really need a thread that does little more than invite gratuitous dissing of players. If criticising players is appropriate at least it should be done in the context of specific issues in other threads.

It's gone.

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
