FAREWELL JEREMY HOWE

Featured Replies

Jeremy Howe is stuffing up our chance to get Aaron Francis. We probably need pick 3 and with Howe not wanting to go to Gold Coast we probably won't get it. I don't think Darcy Parish is the best pick for us.

If he goes to the ND, what pick would Collingwood use on him?

They won't use 7

26? Would we accept 26 for him? If so do a deal and try to get steak knives.

Would he get to 26? That is the question Collingwood would be asking themselves.

I wonder if we could offer another player in howes place for the suns deal?

Pick 6 and watts or grimes

I suspect GC are interested in his marketing potential as a high flyer. If he was given free reign to take mark of the week every week they may think that he would generate interest.

IMO Watts has about as much going for him as Howe, except for the fact that Howe would be an excellent promotional tool in a difficult northern market.

Some bizarre comments in here. Could somebody state what Howe has gone wrong to warrant such hatred? Even assuming he is the one pushing to leave and we are not pushing him I don't get it.

He is allowed to select his club of choice. Are people pizzed that we would get more from GC? That's nothing to do with him

because he is not allowed to select his club of choice under current rules. only free agents are.

Its not what he's wanting to do for himself...it's Howe he's gone about it.

The reason is: first he played the "oh, I'm just waiting for the end of season to resume negotiating with Melbourne" game. For every player who does that and goes on to re-sign with their club, there are 20 who have already checked out mentally. Howe is one of the 20.

Second, he could have said before trade week that he wants to go to Collingwood instead of being coy and implying that he's prepared to go to GC. He's stuffed our trade week strategy.

In short, it is the apparent dishonesty that gets people going.

They all do it. Trelore, Carlisle, etc. it's the reality that players who want to be traded out will say which club they'd prefer to be traded to

Has he said anywhere that he doesn't want to go to GC? Sure, Collingwood may be his preferred club, but is he prepared to go to the GC if a deal can't be brokered with the Magpies?

He either wanted to go or we didn't want him. So he said I'll wait til the end of year. What else can you say?

He probably assumed he'd be going to GC and then the pies come in late with an offer he likes.

And it's ridiculous. Clubs should be allowed to trade players without their permission. It's unfair that players that have given very little to a club hold all the chips.

So the Hawks continue to cherry pic who they want while we continue to pull our pants up.

Awesome!

he's running with the ol' "dont want to move interstate"

Id be gobsmacked if it's come as any surprise to anyone in our FD that Jeremy is leaving, and has had his eyes on such since last year.

If this is the case, where's our plan b or c? It's not really good enough for us to put all our eggs in one basket. Fortunately, I don't think we have and I'm confident we'll pull off something that will improve our list.

We had a strategy?What was plan B

Maybe those things happened. Maybe a giant comet will strike the earth tomorrow. We'll never know.

We can only go on our perception, and that's why I said, it's the apparent dishonesty.

I am sure plans B C D E F all exist.

One of the more important aspects in battle planning is don't tell the media or your opponent what your plans are.

Would anyone here feel better if Mahoney came out before trade week and told everyone what our plans really were?

Imagine playing cards and telling your opponents what you wanted to do and what cards you had, seriously. No news is good news.

If this is the case, where's our plan b or c?

You can get stuck into the FD for that if you want. Right now, we're getting stuck into Howe.

Nothing whatsoever to do with relationships it has everything to do with $$$$ - $400k a year is a lot of coin to a guy plucked from some obscure Tasmanian village and given a break by MFC - bottom line is our FD did not rate him that much so we move on and try and extract the best possible trade to advance our cause - I for one do not think he is the sort of character that I would rely upon to stand up in finals when the heat is really on - Brayshaw, Hogan, Viney, Petracca, Vince, Jones, YES

Howe not sure !

I don't think he has liked being told that he has to work on this and that instead of being given the green light to do want he wants. Apparently Buckley wants him to be an Isaac Smith/Gunston type. Pretty sure they both run and tackle but anyway.

Last person to leave with a chip on their shoulder about finally getting a chance to be appreciated for what they can do instead of being held accountable for what they can't do was Blease.

Best of luck Howie. Think you might need it.

I wasn't necessarily.

And I've bagged Howe enough already. He's a limited player that inexplicably holds some trade value. I'd like him to help the club that gave him a chance to play the game at the highest level, but he doesn't seem the type. Oh, there I go again.

The Filth must think we are easy beats. They offload Dawes and Heretia onto us, knowing full well they are mediocre at best. Now they want Howe for another NQR. Fark them I say.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
