I don't think it is a massive issue but i think this comment sums it up - as do the others that noted it was an opportunity lost. They could have - and probably should have - done better. And the concerns raised they didn't are completely valid.

Like another poster i went past the Pies intra club game last Thursday night. The place was rocking and you could not help be jealous of the buzz. It is worth noting it was held at night, when obviously players would not ordinarily be training. Which implies the maggies were thinking of their fans when scheduling the game (and perhaps also an opportunity to show of the impressive ground and lighting set up) as opposed to not deviating from the regimented pre season training routine for fear of impacting on player performance.

I went to the AGM and listened with interest to PJ's overview of the new Strategic Plan. Two key planks of the plan are building the membership to 50,000 and reengaging with the supposed supporter heartland in the south east and bayside suburbs. All decisions an organisation makes should be done using a lens of the Strat plan and the question asked - how does activity x contribute to achieving specific strategic goals. If you apply that lens to the decision to hold the intra club game at Casey on a Thursday arvo this decision can only be seen as a fail.

Hold the game on a Saturday or even under lights somewhere (if available) in the South Eastern bayside area - an area which by the by is very accessible to people living in Casey. Pump it it up in those suburbs. Put a bus to and from the Casey ground to show support for that area and the club. Provide entertainment, food, access to players not involved etc so people are encouraged to bring their kids. Have merch and membership sales available. In short make it an event. This approach would have supported the achievement of two of the clubs brand new strategic goals that the CEO trumpeted at the AGM to members and would likley not impact on the overarching goal of winning more games of football.

Again it is completely reasonable to question the clubs decision on this one.

Interesting post, especially the bolded paragraph. Underplaying the intraclub can be seen as a "fail", but was it really was a stuff-up by the club? Is there another explanation, such as a commitment made previously that they weren't enthusiastic about but didn't want to break.

It's so unlike PJ to stuff up something like this, especially as it involves not thinking of fans. If it was a stuff-up, it's such an apprentice-level error that it doesn't sit well with someone of PJ's quality. So is there another explanation?

The issue was the timing of the game. The lack of membership/merchandise was a realistic call from the club, given that very few would be able to attend. That is not a whinge, but an observation.

And no offence Saty, but I'd rather a club official give an explanation for the timing of the game than your 3rd hand info from an unidentified source.

You will find that if I put something, I will ask permission to quote who told me, the signage around Goschs was from PJ, lot of the injuries are direct from the player or Misson,

I will attempt to ask about the timing and will attribute if allowed to, although I personally think it all revolved around the training program timings and the availability of the 10 Casey players

I like how you agree that the lack of memberships etc on the day was strange from the club, then go on to blame the 'minority' for the whinging when you've clearly agreed it's a valid point.

For many of the pages the discussion focused on the game, and as more info came to hand in the later part of the thread we discussed other elements of the day. Perfectly fine in anyone's book.

I agree with your first comments Saty, but I think it's just incorrect to say that the posters concerned with the timing of the day are not concerned with the match itself or won't go to Docklands. I am and I do. Discussing how to improve the club's interface with supporters after a intraclub match attended by only a couple of hundred is much better than those here who try and dismiss the discussion as whinging or askew priorities, especially when we hear of our rival cellar dwellers getting it right with a couple of 1000 fans in attendance. Our club would not exist without members. Appreciate you going to training so often and really like your reports, especially about what's actually happening on the field, but please give up the snide put downs.

That has very little to do with the fact that we missed a chance to put on a game at an optimal time to the public and possibly earn money for the club and sign up members...

And yet you "like" posts that label people "morons". Turn it up.

Saty has defended the decision. His view has been contested. He can handle himself just fine on his own without you continually pointing out how wonderful you think he is and asking people to stay on topic by making off-topic posts.

What.I find tedious are comments that derail a legitimate debate that you already saw fit to label as "petty". It's anything but petty. It's perfectly reasonable when looking at the way in which other clubs, large and small, have used the opportunity. Getting a glimpse of Hogan clunking marks and ragdolling teammates would've been good for 50 memberships on its own.

Fair enough of RB to stand up for TDI(Saty) , he cops his fair share of it from a certain few no matter what he posts, good on ya RB fort sticking up for the underdog, completely admirable.
