And out of the players out there today WJ which midfielder would you most like to see in Red and Blue next year?

Paul Ahern of Calder would go nicely. He has a bit of that X Factor, he runs, finds the ball well and is a good kick. De Goey is a hard working player whose a footballer.

They're both mid first rounders and I don't think either of them is what you would call a midfielder at the moment but a couple of seasons under Roos and they could easily be A Graders.

For me, De Goey has the tools to be a potential A-Grade midfielder in the modern game. Height, disposal, clean hands, contested ball winning ability and can obviously swing forward and kick goals.

He should be our man in my opinion.

De Goey's been slowly climbing this season. There's a little bit of Fyfe in the way he plays the game. Very good overhead, aggressive in the tackle.

Big fan of both of these boys WJ, think you're spot on with your assessment. If I was nitpicking, Ahern couldn't get involved when the game was really up for grabs early, whereas De Goey played a big part when Oakleigh put the pressure on.

McLean and McKenzie were also very impressive today. Hope McLean's in the mix for us in the second round. Showed very good vision and strong overhead for a small forward.

Mitch White, drafted in today's rookie draft was in the best players in two of the Stingrays' three TAC Cup finals (problem is I'm having trouble remembering him from the game I saw but that's probably because I simply wasnt focussing on him  ).

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
