This is why bringing in a Ryan O'Keefe would be a massive beneficiary for us.

Not sure if you saw the game this week. GWS despite no fit players on the bench, ran away from our players. It was unbelievable. We are a slow side.

You want to bring in a former great player, who was never quick, who hasn't played an AFL game this year, who turns 34 in January and will probably at best last one season, rather than bringing in a youngster, who could have a career ahead of him. Is that correct?

Our past draft failures were a result of BP targetting the wrong type and the game changing.

If we cant learn how to draft well and develop then we may as well fold now.

Cook and maybe Gysberts were surprise selections. All the rest were taken pretty much exactly where they were expected to go.

Then we threw them all in the 22 for every game of the season, with no support, no quality mature players around to carry the load, no good mature players to teach and lead them, and wondered why they didn't develop properly.

Have a look at how Salem and JKH have been handled this year, THAT'S proper development.

18 year olds are not our saviours. We should know that by now.

Out of interest, if another team wanted to trade for that "run of the mill hardworking midfielder" Dom Tyson, what would we expect back for him?

I wouldn't let him go for at least a top 5 pick.

Posted

Tyson is barely 21, yet to have a full preason, and will likely be runner up in the Bluey. Pretty friggin good "bandaid" pal.

Also, you've just made it clear that you expect draftees to star and carry us, how did that work out from 2007-2013? Plus, you're ignoring the fact that 18 year olds don't develop properly without good mature players around them. You're falling into the same trap.

100% agreement Stuie

This club needs players with a few years under their belts not 18 year old kids who might be good in 2018.

All kids will lead to oblivion.

We better get someone pretty Fukin good if we're trading pick 2. I think pick 2 is more valuable this year considering that Oetracca should be pick 1 if it weren't for st kilda's need to replace riewoldt

We won't develop them properly without quality peak age players to carry the load and teach the kids.

All I remember Roos saying about last year's draft was that they rated the top 10 all pretty evenly, never read anything about "no big bodied mids", but feel free to provide a link/source, cos right now I think you're making it up.

Wrong again Stuie!

"We think pick two is going to be a good player, but having a guy that’s two years older, and a bigger body and a bigger midfielder – most of the top end players in the draft are smaller mids. On the back of Jack and Jimmy last year, we need some size and real strength, so getting Dom was fantastic.” - Roos.

We have Tyson who struggles with a tag and a bunch of draftees who cant get double digits in posession counts. Wouldnt say it was an overwhelming draft last year. Tyson is a bandaid solution when compared to Josh Kelly and now we are looking at doing it again. Our past draft failures were a result of BP targetting the wrong type and the game changing.

If we cant learn how to draft well and develop then we may as well fold now.

This the same Josh Kelly that gets 0 posessions in nearly half a game as sub? Tyson is no bandaid.

I'll reserve judgement until I see which player we pick up, but personally I wouldn't be passing up Petracca unless a gun is on the table

How is it that I'm wrong Moonie? I asked for a source/link, I didn't say "no he didn't say that" did I?

But good on you for trying to tap the grown ups on the shoulder to get some attention, back to the sandbox now little fella.

If we cant learn to draft and develop on our own then what hope do we have?

Constantly rely on AFL handouts in picks and then trade them for players other teams develop?

Posted

Just because it's on the table doesn't mean we'll trade it away from nothing.

Roos might know something we don't. Would you trade pick 2 for say someone like Shields? Of course you would.

I trust Paul Roos. He is not just after quick short term fixes. He said himself after the game that this is a 3-5 year project.

We didn't pay overs for anyone who was a short term fix, like Cross or Vince.

Tyson is a long term prospect and was a great trade.

Paul Roos just said Pick 2 or a priority pick is on the market again at years end.

I dont like it. Last year's excuse was that there was any big bodied midfielders in the top end.

This year we have Petracca and Brayshaw as potential picks and we are still going to trade it away?

I always said we must unfortunately rebuild through the draft and start fresh.

Paul Roos is after fix fixes im afraid..

Nothing wrong with putting it on the Table Dazzle, you need to see what clubs are prepared to offer or talk about.

GWS put Pick 1 on the Table last year

I'm open to listening to offers and making the decision from there

Beat me to it Moon. Proving stuies lack of research once again.

First of all I think Tyson will be an absolute star. We obviously have a good relationship with GWS but from im hearing Dylan shiel and the likes are close to re signing? He would be the only player id willingly give up pick 2 for.

If not why not Dayne Beams?

I'm sure we have made contact with alot of managers with big dollar offers, I'd love to see us hit Adelaide with a big offer for Dangerfield

You're still missing the point.

We won't develop anyone properly without support from quality mature players.

We will still draft players this year, just like last year, but who is going to carry the load and teach players like Salem, Toumpas, JKH, Tyson, Hunt, Harmes etc? Nate Jones by himself?

Hahahaha! Had your bluff called and you resort to belittling posters! Play the ball Stuie. Try checking your facts before you accuse a poster of making something up. You asked for a link, it has been provided. The least you could do is acknowledge to DD36 that he was correct.

I could end like you with a personal insult putting you down, but this time I don't think it's needed!

Mature players like Cross Dunn Grimes Garland Jones Jamar Dawes Vince ect?

We have the chance to take the best mid coming into the game, pretty sure we wont get the best mid of their respective draft year in return

Where did someone from the club say they didn't use pick 2 because there was "no big bodied mids"? Never read that.

Paul Roos last year said it was traded to get in a experience big bodied mid like Tyson because the top end of the draft were only small mid midfielder like Billings Kelly and Aish.

All I remember Roos saying about last year's draft was that they rated the top 10 all pretty evenly, never read anything about "no big bodied mids", but feel free to provide a link/source

You're forgetting the "quality" part.

We have 1 (arguably) top quality player on our list, Jones.

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
