Petracca and Laverde or Brayshaw and Laverde if we happen to do a 'Tyson type' deal with either pick 2 or 3 with 21 for a good mid and a pick in the top 10.

That would be my dream. Laverde might just be the player of the draft.

I liked the look of Laverde's highlights, he looked in control and had time and space.

For some reason my heart says we should draft in both Petracca & Brayshaw and build our list with the proper people in place now.

Use free agency/DFA's with leadership qualities to fill holes for two years continuously, that way it doesn't cost us much.

We won't pick this guy he sounds to good. We only pick duds at the MFC

I wish someone had asked about Roosy's thoughts on Petracca at the Pie Night.

Either way, would trade for an established midfielder in a heartbeat. These kids take 3 or 4 years to build a tank for Roosy's exhausting gameplan.

I wonder if we will ask the Saints who they are thinking of taking. If we are trading it will be very important to know that fact. I think the clubs' recruiters get on pretty well and it won't hurt them to tell us if they have already decided.

For example if Saints are going to take Petracca and if Clark is a definite no go for us next year, then we may look at McCartin or another tall as a trade. This info will be vital to us in respect to the way we trade and prepare for the draft.

Do you really think the Saints would be so forthcoming..?

Actually yes. There may be a deal that in some way involves us as well.

and Tyson is better than Kelly.

Right now he might be but what about in 3-4 years time?

I was happy with the Tyson deal though and I won't change my mind in hindsight either. Whatever we say and think at the time can never be changed. I'd hazard a guess that the majority view amongst Demon supporters was that the Tyson/Salem deal was the right thing to do. It's doubtful that we'll ever get any new information in relation to that deal either.

By the way, Petracca might only turn out to be an average or good (ish) player. There are no guarantees that he'll be a top player and he might just be another player who is only an excellent player at the level he's playing at right now. For his sake, I hope he's better than that but again, how can we be sure on how he's going to turn out?

I find that highly doubtful.

I reckon most of the recruiters would get on alright. I reckon the Saints will take McCartin and I don't think they would have any issues telling us that, it's not like we could trump their pick and steal him.

Id take dom tyson any day over josh kelly. Dom has been outstanding.

I understand that Roosy loves Brayshaw. Sees a lot of him as he plays with Tyler Roos. Brayshaw uses it really well and is good decision maker.

Would be interesting to see who we will/would take out if Petracca or Brayshaw if we only have one pick.

The way Tyson is going, he will be a top 5-10 midfielder in the comp. He is a big bodied midfielder who can mark, kick goals and most importantly, find the footy.

But the main thing is, both Tyson and Kelly look like great players.. Kelly still needs to reach Tyson's level though, because at the moment he's not even close.

Yet, more importantly, it's about Salem also. If Salem can become an absolute gun, which i've seen enough to think that the kid will be an absolute jet, then we are a clear winner.

Mark my words, Kelly will not be that much better than Tyson. Infact, Tyson has every chance to be alot better than Kelly.

I LOVE DOM

Who are St Kilda likely to take with pick 1?

Patrick McCartin in my opinion, the next two drafts I believe are pretty full of mids and they seriously need a good young key forward to build around, I think he will be far more valuable to them than Petracca would.

but essentially i'd say it's between McCartin and Petracca with Wright an outside chance.

It's way too early to know with Kelly but if he turns out to be a top player, we might also end up with 2 top players from dealing that pick 2. If that happens, we easily win out on the deal. As it stands right now, we're ahead in the deal and only time will tell how it all ends up.

I hope we take the chance again on a deal like that because right now, we need as many good players as we can get. Many are looking for A grade with draftees but "very good" ain't so bad. Tyson is very good and Salem could be very good.

It should also be remembered that we may not have picked Kelly if we'd hung on to pick 2 and used it in that draft.

I do agree with this, to some degree.

Tyson definitely has the potential to be a star, when he has support, he wont be caught with the ball and his work will look unbelievable. Not to mention, he finds as much time as Pendles does.

Salem has the physical attributes that could make him a star also. It's too early to comment on this trade, but if you want to talk about it, so far we've won.

If you and others are thinking about how good Petracca and Brayshaw might be, fair enough.

I'm not so enamoured with prospective draftees and never have been. If Frawley goes and we get pick 3 for him, the club might decide to trade that pick away in another Tyson/Salem type deal.

If that scenario were to happen we'd probably use our pick 2 on either Petracca or Brayshaw (or someone else?)

Salem is a natural footballer with footy smarts ... he just needs to get up to the speed of AFL. He's played on the HFF in the team for the most part and in our team ....

Pick 2 on petranca, deal pick 3 to North for a player and their first rounder, they can take Brayshaw. Done

Not sure which player we would want / they would give up, I reckon the Pies would love another really high pick for their mini rebuild, see if we could snag a player and their first rounder maybe?

nope

not the right trade partner for a pick 3 deal

I have heard they're aweful to deal with at the trade table.

Rumours going around are that Beams wants out, but up home to Brisbane obviously.

If they don't trade him out this off-season they seriously risk losing him for naught at the end of 2015 when he's a free agent.

Beams for pick 5 seems like a pretty straightforward deal but im sure the Pies will demand more

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
