I've never been very impressed with Clisby.

He's average at a lot of things, doesn't seem to be good at anything.

Please, someone, tell me what his hidden strengths are.

Being a good bloke?

I can't see them.

Me either

If you spend most of this year at Casey when the senior team is truely struggling the signs are not good.

I think Roos and company have a similar opinion to yourself Machsy

i rate him more than Terlich. Both fighting for the same position, the loser will go the winner will stay.

I like Clis more as he can actually hit a target, and carries and runs it from the back line. This season severely hampered by injury. By showed good signs in 2013.

I can't see Bail going anywhere, he has clearly been playing his role

He isnt impacting games in fact he makes many errors and always is slow in decision making needs more confidence Really wont matter if he goes

Bail tries very hard, no one doubts that, but the clangers!!! He's been around a while and just shouldn't make them. There are no excuses now. Is he going to help cart us up the ladder? I doubt it. Is he likely to be a good finals player? I doubt it.

He's not on his own and indeed there probably are even more "delistworthy" players, such has been our recruiting.

Someone else made the point that we had inexperienced coaches in recent problem filled past, making responsibility for the season's result clouded. A good point I reckon, made even worse as we had inexperienced players and inexperienced coaches which has proven to be a diabolical mix. Maybe you can have one but not both.

Problem for players now is Roos isn't an inexperienced coach.

If you are not injured and have not gotten a game yet - things look bleak

To be honest, I can't even remember what Clisby plays like. Has he played at all this year? How many games did he play last year?

Is he a small back or can he also rotate midfield?

Sorry but I dont know much about him.

Playing most of the games this season may not save a few of our blokes. Let's face it, a number of our players are getting games when ordinarily, if we were a good team, they wouldn't be getting those games.

These type of players will almost certainly have to make room for up to 5-8 new recruits and youngsters like Salem, JKH, Toumpas & Hogan. Unless these type of players come into the category of a "very good depth player", I can see the club trading out a few contracted types (that is, if they're wanted elsewhere of course)

We've seen in the past that some fair to average players can often find new homes and I believe that is largely due to the fact that there's probably only about 35-50 worthwhile choices in the ND.

Certain clubs would rather take the chance on a player who could offer a bit of depth for a couple of years rather than a speculative pick 60-70 that they'd ordinarily have to put a lot of time into (at least 2 years worth as a general rule)

When I watched Clisby last year I saw a footballer. A raw footballer, but a footballer.

Regardless of what he has done this year, I have never once had this feeling watching Terlich.

For mine...

DEFINITELY DELIST
Blease, Strauss, Clisby, Nicholson

VERY THIN ICE TO DELIST
Tapscott, Terlich

TRADE BAIT IF THERE'S INTEREST
Fitzy, McKenzie, Evans, M.Jones

ON THE TABLE FOR A DECENT OFFER (MIGHT BE CONTROVERSIAL)
Jamar, Grimes, Watts

ALREADY GONE
Clark, Byrnes, Chip (probably)

That's up to 16 spots to fill, though more likely we'll be looking at 10-12 spots to fill. Jetta will be elevated, Georgiou might be if Chip goes too. So at a rough guess we'll be looking for about 10 new senior players and 2 rookies.

There's controversial, and then there's just completely out of the realm of possibility.

Do you really, honestly perceive a situation in which we put our current captain on the trade table?

It won't happen t_u but for the right player yes.

If anything they'll demote Grimes to leadership group for a year then trade if necessary, but they aren't going to trade a captain right off the bat.

The reason I listed Jamar, Grimes, and Watts as possible trades is they are players that in my opinion are perceived as better players outside the MFC than they actually are, so we could quite possibly get a trade for them that would be a big win for us.

Love Grimes as a bloke, but hard decisions need to be made about our extremely disappointing list.

I am not a big fan of Grimes but how lucky was he to miss the last game.

Can rightly say it was not my fault.

Imagine the angst towards him if he had played on Sunday

That's a particularly strange way to think.

Maybe we'd have won if Grimes was fit . . . . .

You don't really believe that do you?

JC could not have made up for the lack of skill on Sunday.

Yet still we were in front for part of the final quarter...

Don't be disingenuous.

This is always a difficult thing to argue Machsy but I believe the game was lost much earlier in the day by our atrocious kicking.

Any how it may be disingenuous but I don't think Grimes would have made the slightest difference to the result

2017

Dunn, Hogan

2016

Dawes, Grimes (RFA), Watts (RFA), Michie*, Vince, Tyson*, Kent, M Jones, Spencer, McDonald, Barry, Jetta,

2015

Clark, Trengove, Jamar (UFA), Garland (RFA), McKenzie, Howe, N Jones (RFA), Evans, Gawn, Fitzpatrick, Viney, Toumpas, Pedersen, Salem, Kennedy-Harris, Hunt, Cross

2014

Frawley (UFA), Tapscott, Blease, Strauss, Bail, Byrnes, Terlich, Clisby*, Riley*, Nicholson, Harmes ®, King ®, Georgiou ®,

* = Best guess of contract length. Would love confirmation...

List Spots Available: 1

Additions: ND3, ND21, ND39, ND57, ND75, ND93, ND111

Actions:

Clark and Byrnes retired.

Jetta upgraded and signed till 2016.

Here is the current status of the list after Jetta being upgraded. I am inclined to believe Riley has another year on his contract but who knows with Clisby? That is not rhetorical. Who knows?

I was told on the weekend by a MFC players partner Terlich has just signed a new contract.

Not sure of length sorry...

Gee if they're signing up players like Terlich now, you'd have to think they are pretty confident Frawley is gone...

Not too surprised on Terlich.

I know he hasn't been playing seniors, and for good reason, but he's still a class above Strauss, Tapscott, Blease and Nicholson.

I'd have given him a one year extension.

I agree he is nothing above average but he can play that quartet on a break.

I agree, although I guess what I was saying was that given the cleanout they seemingly want to make, I'm surprised they aren't keeping as many list spots open as possible. Seems odd to give Terlich a contract a few weeks before the end of the season, unless they know eg that Frawley is off so they've got one more opening than they possibly hoped for... Interesting anyway.

If we retain Terlich, it's not because he's better than any of those players.

It's because we can't get rid of everyone at once and the others have had a longer shot at it than Terlich.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
