Why would Roos go to Brisbane?

We will have a much better list than them with some serious top end talent that he can choose in the draft, with Hogan coming in too.

As crazy as it sounds fully fit we have one of the best spines in the comp.

The poster I responded to appeared to be claiming that Round 20-21 was mid season.

I should have said during the season. But I did say 20 days before the end of the season.

It's a disgrace even if they signed Roos, as they could have let him finish the last 3 games.

Possible Roos has refused to talk to them while Voss is coach out of respect and they acted because they were concerned we were going to convince him?

not saying what they did was right.

Might have been difficult if he had won all 3, seems like they have a plan. Surely you don't do this without one but it could backfire badly.

I understand he was offered the remaining 3 matches but refused the offer.

The outcome of the 3 games would be irrelevant if the Board has lost confidence in the coach.

If their decision was to based or heavily influenced by the last 3 games results then they clearly dont have confidence in the coach and they should not re appoint him.

If after 5 years coaching Voss didnt have an extension/commitment for a further two years then the writing was on the wall.

It wouldn't have changed their decision but it would have met with a bit more resistance given his status with supporters.

Gee, sacking the biggest legend in the club's history, during the season, when the side is actually going ok.

I would imagine the people, including some Demonlanders, who rubbished the MFC for not RENEWING Junior's contract for another year, at the end of the season, must be outraged at a club legend being sacked mid season and treated so appallingly.

And this is what makes me so nervous... They surely wouldn't have done that if they didn't have a good replacement signed and ready to go. Paul Roos? Conspiracy theory? MFCSS? Paranoia?

If the MFC can not secure an experienced coach I think we should appoint a Demonland poster (one of us).

My vote is for Hogans_Heros a man who can saywhat he said about married is either deluded or the bravious mam I never meet. Surely as a MFC supporter he can not be deluded therefore he must the right man for the job.

IMO noone could ba as bad as Mark Neeld as Senior Coach and think with that many assistant and ther coaches there no need to actual turn up to games if they have something better to do on the week ends, plus there always Neil Craig if things go too badly.

IMO Roos is never coming to the MFC, why would he risk his reputation and future career prospects in doing so?

It will be a very brave person indeed who would want to coach the MFC if they are already a sucessful and experienced AFL coach.`

However if I am wrong and PJ can recruit Roos or someone like him the GOD is truely a MFC supporter who punishing us for sacking Norm Smith.

They are hardly torching the streets over the decision. Voss burnt many of his bridges with the Fevola disaster.

Article is by Jon Ralph...holds no weight whatsoever. The guy is less reliable than a weatherman.

Why?

Seems reasonable and plausible...unlike a lot the speculation on this site.

Don't know about that the Lions forums are an interesting read. A lot of people had regained faith in him in the latter part of this season. Oh well, shame there is competition in the coaches market, Brisbane is hardly a cushy gig though.

I've never been a fan of reluctant coaches who might be swayed to take the job if there's enough coin on offer a la Malcolm Blight at St. Kilda. While Roos might possess a lot of the attributes we're looking for in a coach, complete commitment and dedication to the task is absolutely not negotiable.

It's interesting to discover that Brisbane is in a parlous financial state and will have to go to the AFL with a begging bowl (as we did) in order to finance an expensive coach. I wonder if the Lions cop as much flack as we did when we applied for assistance.

Brisbane did not tank, did not run maverick doctors in their FD nor did they unnecessarily extend the contracts of executives only to cut them within six months.

A maverick doctor can happen and the board were smart to insist on a 3 month pay out clause for Schwab. Clubs make these decisions.

No doubt the Brisbane people ran a tight ship and were stiff to be in a position where they need a spare $3m in the kitty. IMO there must be some issues over at the Lions to create a situation where they recruited Fevola and other duds, lost good players, sacked a favourite son and are in deep shite over money. They don't get any pity from me.

5 wins in the last 7 games? (according to the article)

You wouldn't sack your coach with 3 rounds left unless you had someone lined up and they would obviously have to be good.

The only other explanation is Voss said he was clearly unhappy with not being able to get a contract extension or he has done something that was disapproved of?

I think we know the answer to that. They don't sell (m)any Ages and Herald Suns in Queensland.

There appears to be a general presumption Voss was sacked because a better coach has already signed or has committed to the Lions. This overlooks the fact that Voss has been coach for almost 5 years and has not really done anything special. Nor does he ever come across as an exceptional coach. Nor did his special comments on 10 reveal a great footy brain. And the less said about his recruiting coups, the better (unless you like to point and laugh, but that would hardly be the done thing for a Melbourne fan).

He coached a reasonable squad to the finals in his first year, but Black, Brown and Power (and, of course, Travis Johnstone) were still influencing games. And the Lions have had some good wins this year, but they are nevertheless 13th.

In short: Voss's time is up.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
