Inside Football: Watts & pick 2 for David Swallow - prelim discussions

A fit Clark with Hogan, Dawes and Howe makes for little room up the sharp end for Watts. As he seems not quite able to morph into the super sweeper we'd like at halfback hes just made himself very tradable.

but with 2 for Swallow , someones having a lend of us surely .

I'm inclined to agree - no move would be made without input from the new coach, whomever it may be.

If talks have occurred, I imagine it is just the club seeing what sort of offers are available to them at this stage, as they'll probably be working on restricted time when the coach is installed.

It's going to be very interesting for the old MFC. Trade week starts a week after the GF. Eade or Williams can't be officially appointed until after their teams bow out of the finals. My guess (hope) is it won't be Williams and in the absence of Roos will be Eade. If Pies stay in till Prelim or GF then there is only a week for Eade's input before Trade Week. I would imagine no player is going to want to go to MFC without knowing who the Coach is going to be. But players who want to move and who are good will have most teams sounding them out to come to them well before trade week. So where does that leave MFC in trade week. Pretty behind the ball I would say. We would have been anyway after this year's performance but without knowing who the coach is going to be, I would think we are really going to struggle. I can't imagine the team can afford to hold off talks until the new coach is appointed. They will have to be having them asap.

If Roos decided to come to MFC he really has to decide pretty soon or he will be severely hindering his ability to impact the trade period. If he becomes the coach I would think it would transform our ability to attract players during trade week. But the sooner everyone knows the better.

Any one know when the decision on a Priority Pick will be announced.

No idea why people keep mentioning it. Especially since no kids have even nominated for a potential mini draft nor would the afl even be half capable of organizing the admin behind it this time of the year. Forget about it people.

Not an option. It was only created for the expansion teams. It won't be seen again. The only AFL concession we can get is priority picks. Forget about mini drafts.

This isnt Rocket  science regarding the nature of whom we would target for drafting. Ask just about anyone, their dog, cat budgie and the reply will be MIDS MIDS MIDS. Jason Taylor and crew Todd Viney and co will all be evauating every viable draft possibility that fits the Mids Mids Mids philosophy. Recruiting often circumvents the coaching dept in a way . Granted theres no doubt MN sent up the flares re Gillies Rodan and Pedersen but that mistake wont be made again WILL IT MFC !!!

I really hope we keep Watts. He is beginning to show why he was picked number 1. If we trade watts we will regret it.

If by 'show' you mean jogging instead of gut running, up and down form, inconsistent hunger for the contest and expecting others to lift the team instead of taking the game on himself, then yes, he is showing that.

Keep or trade Watts? Meh... whatever. He's not going to be the messiah for us, that's for sure.

Nupp no Character, if he can't show that now what's he gunna do when the heat is on in a Grand Final? guys like Trengove at least work hard, if they don't make it it's not from a lack of trying, Watts drives me up the wall because he has everything but work ethic

David Swallow for pick 2 is surely not a deal where we finish ahead.

Please tell me your kidding? I would do that trade in a heartbeat.

If not, you've just given a prime example of people getting so stuck up with their preconceived notions and ability to significantly overrate the draft and the "number" of a draft pick.

Please look at the top 10 of the 2012 draft and tell me if you would trade pick 2 for any of those players (ideally midfielders), and if you say YES for Wines or Whitfield I would rate David Swallow just as high. Other than that it's unlikely pick 2 in the draft would give us anyone superior than those, along with the possibility of drafting a spud and having to put an additional three years of development into them.

As another comparison would you do that trade for a fit Andrew Swallow (I'm sure 99% of demonlanders would)? If so at the same age Andrew Swallow hadn't exactly burst out of the blocks, he did in his 4th and 5th seasons, like many young talents.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
