Buffalo 203 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I know Terlich get a lot of the football, but as Paul Roos has observed, his opponents kick an awful lot of goals.
What 18,810 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Trengove had a terrible first half, but in the 2nd half was much better and ended with 19 possies and 12 tackles. I am sure he will come good, but as someone said above it will depend on what Misson and co, can do to work out why he has lost all his pace and explosiveness. I really hope they are working on it already and know the answer.
Geddy Lee 582 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 We're laying into Trengove? Really? I thought everyone was pretty impressive, especially Frawley, Watts, Sylvia, Fitzy and Viney. Our poorest were: Blease (8 touches in 90% game time is horrid) Gawn (well beaten) Toumpas (shouldn't have played) Dawes (really poor performance) Thought Trenners was pretty good to be honest, but I wait before posting!

When he gets through this he will get more power into his game like Ball has at Collingwood. He is doing a great job in the circumstances but is labouring through the game.

Totally agree and luke ball has come back to be a gun player, the other thing people need to consider is the stress fracture, the pain from that can hang around for a long time, so when you add up all of the factors that would be holding him back, OP stress fracture playing in a poor side pressure of being captain too young and of a poor side drug saga (less of a concern but i'm sure he was worried about it) and he is still averaging 20 touches over the last month, he can turn the ball over but in general he is okay with ball in hand, and he is our best defensive mid in terms of tackles and pressure around the stoppages, i know that's a hard thing to see when we are well beaten, but it's the same sort of strength alot of the sydney players seem to develop

Soidee 1,496 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 We tried hard as a team but honestly we have too many players who are do not run hard enough to get to where the ball is. Our skill levels are also terrible week in week out. Too many also rans on this list.
Bossdog 2,002 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 When has Trengove played like a captain should? What a Joke. Robbie Flower was a Captain as was David Neitz. Got votes in the Sunday Age.......Just saying....
Guest Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 No, Nate Jones didn't have his best game last night, but that was because his opponent is a cheat. If you watch Raines closely in any game, especially last night, he holds and shepherds his opponent 10+ metres off the play, and never has eyes for the ball. Shocking that the umpires almost never pull him up on it. The likes of him and Crowley are praised for being 'expert taggers', when all they really are is talentless, cheating flogs. Sorry but it frustrates the hell out of me.
Sir Why You Little 37,492 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Got votes in the Sunday Age.......Just saying....But did he deserve them???Just take the captaincy off him is all i ask. A Captain leads and inspires the team. Please tell me when Trengove has done this?
Macca 17,132 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Old habits die hard. We are still far too boundary line conscious and seemed to ignore the corridor when it was obviously our best option. It's not like we were playing a good side and were forced wide. Brisbane were undermanned and we should have put them under a lot more pressure. We didn't and that's one of the reasons we lost the game. If we measured our performance against our efforts in the 1st half of the season then you could say we've gotten a lot better but we're still far too indirect. We need to take the game on a lot more and take more risks. The players often go wide as a first option and opposition teams know it. There is actually more room in the middle of the ground for our forward forays but our players up the ground continually lead to the boundary line. The 'safe' option ends up being the option with the most risk. We lost a game we could have won. Our overall effort and endeavour has improved dramatically but we create far too many out of bounds situations. That might be ok if we were good at stoppages and clearances but we are poor in both those areas. Our best chance is keeping the ball alive. If you've got your eye on our draft pick number and a possible priority pick then last nights loss maybe won't mean much. I believe we desperately need some wins to restore lost faith. Last night was a reasonable effort but we still lost.
71 Molloy 266 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Not sure about the relevance of them missing black and brown. Will we have to beat a bears side with both of them to win a flag?

Little Richard 6,265 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I'm a fan of players trying to break a tackle or two like Terlich does but last night he over-did it. I think most of them did. Brisbane kept breaking ours, far too easily so maybe they thought they could do the same. What I saw last night was that we kept failing to pin the arms, therefore the Lions players were able to get off a clean handball way too easily or break the tackle. I also think Dunn was pretty solid down back. Disposal was still iffy but he did pretty well to clear it often and was a cool head.

I am asking legitimate questions that you don't like. We should have beaten the Paddle Pops last night. Sick of people going soft on this list.
btdemon 482 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 While last night was frustrating, if we had played the Lions in darwin two months ago under the old regime we probably would have been blown away. All of the players who do things that annoy us are still doing them, but not nearly as much. this suggests that the learning environment is positive rather than intimidating. Change is incremental. I am hopeful that we are generally moving in the right direction and will continue to do so.
btdemon 482 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 no i am not. I am asking legitimate questions that you don't like. We should have beaten the Paddle Pops last night. Sick of people going soft on this list. What is the alternative to "going soft" on the list? It's the only list we have.,

Sir Why You Little 37,492 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 What is the alternative to "going soft" on the list? It's the only list we have.,Sadly aware of that. Highly overpaid to...Makes it hard to improve when you don't have to.

Please tell me when Trengove has done this? WYL, I disagree with your view on the votes because I think Trengove did play quite well last night. However he has obviously struggled a bit this season and I think for that reason, as well as the way Grimes handles himself and performs in comparison, a change should be made in leadership next season. Trengove should not be axed entirely but my ideal setup would be Grimes as stand alone captain with a leadership group of Dawes, Trengove, Jones, Clark and Garland (maybe add/take out a couple from that). Two vice captains should be picked from that group. Trengove does need to forget about the captaincy for at least a year and focus on his game, that's my view anyway.
stuie 7,374 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 is that your best effort Stuie as a return? Next... WYL, I used to appreciate your posts, your passion, even your insight, but you've turned into a directionless ranter.
